Okay, so Hampton is two now, but these tips held true before his birthday. I plan on incorporating them again once our baby boy is born in November(ish). Running errands with two young children – regardless of their age can be trying. We’ve all experienced toddler tantrums out in public probably more than we have smooth and successful errand runs, am I right? Is that just me? Okay…
Friday Favorites
Happy FriYAY, friends! I am pretty excited that it is the weekend. We have had a great week, but this mama is tired and ready for some R&R! Yesterday, we made all of the selections for our new house and were told the foundation will be poured next week! We are so excited and I am very thankful that things are working out the way they are. See? God always has a better plan for us even when we can’t see it at the time. This is completely different than what we thought we were going to do in the beginning, but it is working out to where our kids will be in a great school zone and the school is literally 2 blocks from our house, so we can walk Hampton to kindergarten (in a couple of years) which will be so nice! There is even a park, pool and splash pad in our neighborhood, so I am beyond excited about those amenities!
20 Weeks Pregnant – Halfway, Baby!
I am 20 weeks pregnant now, and in some ways this pregnancy has flown by, but in the last two weeks, it has come to a screeching halt. I talked a little bit about my complications last week and about moderate bedrest yesterday and let me tell you, while I am thankful I’m not on full bedrest (yet, anyway), I am not enjoying not being able to lift my babies or run in the yard with them. I’m not enjoying not being able to go many places and having to be really careful when I do. I am already tired of “laying around” and it has made these last two weeks slow to snail speed. I am praying so hard that this placenta previa resolves itself in the next couple of months so that I can get back to business as usual.
What to do When You’ve Been Put on Moderate Bedrest
I am not a doctor or medically trained professional. I advise you to seek the advice of your doctor when placed on moderate bedrest. I am only speaking from my own personal experiences with my own diagnosis.
Last week, after learning that I had complete placenta previa and started spotting and cramping, I was put on “moderate bedrest.” I’ve had a lot of pains this time around that have been very different than your typical round ligament pains. It took me by surprise because I am still young and my first two pregnancies had zero complications. I had never heard of “moderate bedrest” until last week. I though there was only “bedrest.” Who knew there was such a thing?
The first thing I did was ask my doctor a ton of questions and then talked to a close friend of mine, who happens to be a nurse, about everything. They told me all the information I really needed to know and my doctor gave me instructions on what to do and not to do. I still did a lot of research on my own and found this article written by the APA that was also very helpful. For me, moderate bedrest means that I am on complete pelvic rest. No exercising and I was instructed to rest as much as possible to ease the pains and keep from bleeding again. Also, I am at a high risk for preterm labor, so operation keep baby in has commenced. Resting will help this process.
The Weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews
The Weekeners by Mary Kay Andrews
Synopsis from Goodreads: Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and “the weekenders” can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found.
So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery deepens…in a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.
Told with Mary Kay Andrews’ trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can’t help but fall for, The Weekenders is the perfect summer escape.
Father’s Day Weekend 2016
Our Father’s Day weekend was full of lots of sweet memories this year! I have the best dad and husband and loved having a good excuse to celebrate them. We enjoyed lots of family time and I got in a good bit of extra rest which was a good thing. Last week was a little rocky and I’ll be honest, kind of difficult. After being put on partial bed rest and having another little scare on Thursday, I was told to take it very easy. No lifting, lay down as much as possible, etc. Ryan was out of town on Thursday when I had my second little scare, so it was a hard day with the babies. Thank goodness for my in-laws who kept our kids overnight for us on Friday which allowed me to get a lot of rest and we even got in a quick date to our favorite restaurant!
Texas Caviar Recipe
Earlier this week, before I went on “partial bed rest” we went swimming and grilled out and enjoyed the perfect summer afternoon! One of my favorite things about summertime is spending it outdoors in the pool or enjoying time with friends and family and good food. We love to grill year round, but there is something about a BBQ or grilled chicken in the summer that makes me excited. This week, we made some Texas Caviar as the perfect appetizer for our pool day and we have been enjoying it all throughout the week. I love Texas Caviar because it is delicious and healthy! Win-win!
Gender Reveal and 19 Weeks
This week has been a bit of a roller coaster. We went to the doctor last Friday to find out the gender of our baby – or rather, have it confirmed. Confession: Ryan and I found out while we were in Florida, but because I was only 16 weeks, I wanted to have it confirmed before announcing it. While at the doctor, I also found out I have complete Placenta Previa with this pregnancy. Sigh. This means that if it does not resolve itself by the end of my pregnancy, I will have to have a c-section. I will also more than likely have to be on bed rest for a little while at some point and am at a high risk for pre-term labor. Not something you ever want to hear.
Father’s Day Gift Guide
I love Father’s day because it is the perfect excuse to celebrate my dad and my amazing husband who is an incredible father to our babies. I think sometimes I can take him for granted and all he does for our family, so having a reason to celebrate him and show him our appreciation is exciting!
Sun is Shining, Weather is Sweet
I am a huge fan of the fall, but there is just something about summer that makes me always want to smile. Maybe it’s the beautiful weather, maybe it’s the travel, maybe it’s the salty ocean air and sand between my toes or running through a sprinkler with my little ones, but the summer is sweet, indeed.
