Y’all. I just woke up and my newborn is almost 6 months and my 18 month old is turning two this weekend. T W O. What in the world? Surely I blacked out for a few months? How has the time flown by that fast? Hampton’s first year flew by, but his second? It has been even faster. My baby girl is on the verge of crawling and my tiny Hamp is turning two. He is now longer my baby. He is a toddler on his way to big boy land. I wish it would all slow down. I wish the days would seem like actual full days instead of an hour or two divided by a nap. I feel like I’m being robbed of their baby years, yet, I’m right here! I’m right by their side 24/7.
Black Out
5 Ways to Involve Your Toddler with the New Baby
For the first 2 months of SR’s life, I felt like we were in survival mode. I know that may seem dramatic to some of you, but those of you who have been there totally get it. That is really how it felt. Between healing from having another baby, Hampton starting to act out and show major aggression towards our newborn, Ryan being in the middle of a legislative session and showing our house every other day, it was absolutely insane. I’m just keeping it real. It has not been all warm and fuzzy. Sure, we enjoyed our baby cuddles and we have loved every minute, but it has not been easy.
It has taken me a while to figure out how to get Hampton to be kind and excited over his new sister. At first he was jealous and honestly just didn’t get it. I don’t think he knew she was a real baby. He acted like she was a doll. We had a few moments that were pretty scary.
A couple of months ago, I had had enough and really started working with him. I designated him as my #1 helper and have been trying to spend a lot more one on one time with him. Since doing this, he has been great. He grabs diapers for me, he wipes her mouth with the burp cloth and he gives the sweetest little hugs. It has made all the difference. We have only had one act of aggression towards the baby in the last month now which is a lot better than multiple times a day.
So, how do you get your toddler involved and feel special after the new baby arrives?
1. Talk to your toddler. They understand more than we think they do, they just can’t express things with their words, so they act out to get your attention or communicate with you. I sat down and talked with my son one on one. I told him that he had a very special job – he was a big brother! His job was to help his baby sister, protect her and teach her. I told him this over and over for a couple of weeks and his attitude totally changed because he felt special and included.
2. Let your toddler “help” you. Have them hand you diapers or wipes. Let them give baby their pacifier or help with their bottle feeding. This also helps them feel included and needed.
3. Pray for your child. This is the greatest thing you can do for your children. Bringing another baby into our home rocked my son’s world. He was used to getting all the attention and then had to share all of a sudden. He was too young to really comprehend what was happening. It took him a while to get that she wasn’t leaving. She was here to stay. Your toddler is going through a lot of change. Their world has been turned upside down. They are going to need a lot of love and support during this time. Prayer is the most important thing you can do for your child. Ask for God’s wisdom in how you parent and how to best care for two babies.
4. Spend one on one time with your toddler often. I try to spend time with my little man every single day. Some days that may just be reading a book while SR is sleeping. Other days I may take him to the park – just the two of us. Make sure you are still getting that special time with the one that made you a mommy!
5. Give it time. The thing I noticed through these last 5 months are that each month gets a little bit easier. As SR and Hampton grow older and I gain more and more experience having two babies, it has become just about manageable! Don’t get me wrong, people still look at me when I’m holding SR and holding H’s hand, my purse and diaper bag with pitying stares. I get asked all the time if I need help. haha It makes me laugh because I honestly could always use help because I’m outnumbered, but I can also do it!
H will be two this weekend. I can’t believe it. I will no longer have “2 under two.” I will have two 18 months apart. My emotions are all over the place because while I do have two kids now, I feel like I just had him! I feel like I just brought my first baby home from the hospital. I was looking at photos on Facebook the other day and came across some from the pumpkin patch last year. It feels like that was yesterday. H has changed so much this year, but remained the same sweet little boy. He is more curious and loves to study everything. He started counting to 10 a couple of months ago and knows all of his primary and even some secondary colors. He sings and makes his mama proud – dances all over the place. He gets so excited over the tiniest things and he has the biggest heart already. I love this baby with all my heart and while he will technically not be a baby anymore, he will always be my baby. The one who made me the most precious name in the world – mommy.
Halloween Recipe: Mummy Dogs
This post is sponsored by Pillsbury but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
Halloween has been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember, but it has been made even better since having kids. I enjoy picking out their Halloween costumes (while I still can – sort of), making cute little crafts, participating in our church’s trunk or treat and making yummy Halloween recipes! Last week, I decided to make H a fun little Halloween themed lunch! He wasn’t feeling great and I wanted to make him a special treat to lift his spirits.
One of H’s current favorite foods is of course, – the hotdog. #AmericanKid Since this is his favorite, I decided to make Mummy Dogs. The perfect Halloween themed lunch!
I preheated the oven to 375 and while I waited for it to heat, I rolled out my Pillsbury crescent rolls and grabbed my pizza cutter and began to cut thin strips. After I had several cut, I dried off my hotdog wieners and began wrapping the strips around them. I didn’t try to make it perfect and in fact, I noticed that the sloppier I got with it, the better they looked, so don’t be afraid to go a little crazy.
I left a little room for the eyes for after they baked. After they were all wrapped up, I placed them on a cookie sheet and popped them in the over for 9 minutes (or until golden brown). Once they were finished, I let them cool for a couple of minutes and then used mustard as eyeballs. I added a little ketchup (or in this case “blood”) to H’s plate because he loves to dip everything.
These were a huge hit with my son! I think I will make it a little tradition in our house to make these every October. They are so easy and a big hit with the kids!

Nickelodeon TMNT Costume and Spooktacular Extravaganza at Party City
Thank you to Nickelodeon for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to customize Halloween for me and my family thanks to Party City!
We are getting so excited for Halloween! It is by far my favorite holiday as it is during my favorite season and centered around pumpkins, dressing up in fun costumes and sweets! I have had SR’s Halloween costume for months. Yes, months. Before she was even born, I knew what she would be for Halloween and I planned accordingly. This year, H is old enough to where he can now tell me what he wants to be…apparently. I had a really cute little “couple costume” planned for the kids but oh, no! H wouldn’t have it. He knew exactly what he wanted to be! TMNT.
With Ryan’s birthday party happening tomorrow, I had a few last minute decorations to grab while I was there including a birthday banner, confetti, and Halloween paper plates! As always, Party City saved the day because they had all of these items and so much more!
I had also sort of planned to make H a Halloween costume using the accessories at Party City, but I caved when I saw the adorable TMNT costume that he wanted. It was just too cute and he is so adorable in it. It was also the far easier option, and sometimes, I have to give into convenience.
The best part about shopping for our Nickelodeon Costume is that with any Nickelodeon in-store purchase, you will receive a free digital poster for your kiddos. It is such a cute idea and a great way to get them even more excited to be their favorite character.
We had so much fun shopping for H’s costume and he was excited to pick it out. Check out the video I created of our shopping experience! Your heart might melt a little when you get to the end. Can you say adorable kid?

Birmingham Alabama: 4th Anniversary Road Trip
Last week, I mentioned that I needed a break in a bad way! I definitely got a little bit of a break on Saturday when we took a little road trip to Birmingham, Alabama to celebrate our 4th Anniversary and start on a little Christmas shopping. Ryan and I love to travel and we had planned on a much bigger trip this year, but as always when you have two babies life tends to get in the way. So, we decided to take a little day trip to Birmingham and hit a couple of our favorite spots!
When we first arrived, we were already running a little behind because traffic was awful. I’m still not entirely sure what was going on because we never passed a wreck or anything, but traffic was backed up for many miles on I-65. Once we finally made it, we decided to skip New York Pizza (the best pizza I’ve ever had) and go straight to The Summit to start shopping! I bought Ryan an Apple Watch for his birthday/anniversary gift and so we started at Apple and ended at Lilly Pulitzer!
After we shopped and walked around for a bit, we ate dinner at The Cheesecake Factory! I had not been there in years and so we decided to enjoy a little comfort food. It was a tough decision as there are so many places to eat in Birmingham.
Ryan actually lived in Birmingham for a while while we were dating. He loved living there and we have definitely tossed around the idea of moving there once our house sells, but the way our minds change, there is no telling where we will end up. It’s so nice and beautiful. There are gorgeous hills and beautiful trees. My hometown is totally flat, so it is a nice change of scenery even driving north one hour. We enjoyed some quality time and conversation without the kiddos present and screaming in the background. They were missed, but it is always nice to have a little break.

The month of October is bipolar in the state of Alabama and everyone stays sick because of it – including my family this week. We have all been coughing and dealing with “the crud.” Because the weather is so unpredictable, I love wearing light layers or tops that are very weather neutral – like this top! I love love this top because while it is thin enough to wear in 80 degree weather, it’s sleeves make it perfect for a cooler night as well! Shashi’s is an adorable boutique and I love their clothes. They also have great party decorations! Right now, all Clearance is on sale for $9.99! I am loving this top!
Most of you know that the month of October is a busy but fun month for my family. We celebrated our anniversary last week, and tomorrow we will be celebrating my husband’s 30th birthday! It’s a big one! We are so looking forward to his party this weekend with our closest friends and of course, football! Throw in a baby shower that I am decorating for (with my mom) and it is going to be a busy (but fun) week! The celebrations don’t stop there – my baby boy will be 2 next Saturday! I can’t believe it, but more on that later. This week is all about Ryan. My husband is my world! He is so hardworking and loves me and our kids to the fullest. He is so much fun and those that know him best can’t help but absolutely love him. He is so kind, generous and has such a calming spirit. He has a way to teaching me what is and isn’t important. I joke with him all the time about how he is my therapist because I can talk to him about a difficult situation and he will totally change my thinking and make me look at things more clearly while also totally de-stressing me. He is my personal therapist. Go find your own. I’m keeping mine.
Ryan is the type of person who literally does not care what anyone thinks about him or says about him. I’ve never seen someone let things roll off of them the way he does. I wish so badly that I could be like that. He has taught me so much in our 4 years of marriage and he is such a wonderful husband and father. I love watching him with our babies and how much he enjoys playing golf in the backyard with H and making SR giggle herself to tears. This man is precious beyond words and I am so blessed to be able to spend my days and years with him. He may never know how much he has done for me and our little family, but we will be impacted in the biggest way because of him.
I could write about him for days, but I guess I need to end this post sometime before I end up in tears trying to type out how I feel about my husband.
Ryan, I hope you have the happiest of birthdays! I know I tease you about being old and robbing the cradle and what not, but I am thankful for you and your oldness. Lord knows I needed a mature man to walk with me through life. I love you!

Loaded Avocado Bar and Giveaway
This post is sponsored by Old El Paso but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
Growing up in the state of Alabama, you are forced to choose between Auburn and Alabama at birth. The parents choose for you and that is the team you pull for for the rest of your life. You are raised to strongly dislike the opposite team and their redneck tendencies. The Iron Bowl is the biggest game day of the year. Not the super bowl. Winner accepts bragging rights until the next Iron Bowl and the losing team can be found looking at their shoes for the rest of the year. It’s a really big deal.
Most football Saturdays are spent with family and friends. I love to have easy snacks around the house and I enjoy serving my favorite game day recipes. Whether I serve my Mexican Layered Dip or Frankenstein Guacamole, you can usually bet Avocados from Mexico will be served up in our favorite appetizers. This past week, we celebrated our 4th anniversary. I was reminiscent on one of my favorite parts of our wedding – the loaded potato bar! It was delicious and everyone’s favorite. I thought it would be fun to set up a Loaded Avocado Bar as a healthier alternative for our game day Saturday! I ran to Publix to pick up my Avocados from Mexico and other toppings. I love shopping there because they have the best coupons and deals!
Included on our Loaded Avocado Bar:
Avocados from Mexico
Shredded Cheese
Sour Cream
Bacon Bits
Other Delicious Options:
Salsa
Cheddar and Chives
Pea Dip
Bacon and Blue Cheese or Ranch
I recommend using very ripe Avocados and a spoon or chips!
We had fun eating our loaded avocados and watching Gameday on ESPN before we went to Birmingham! It was such a fun and relaxing way to spend our Saturday. I loved setting up this loaded avocado bar and I am looking forward to doing it next time we entertain guests! It’s a fun twist on our wedding favorite!

My Secret to How I Appear to Be On Social Media All The Time Without Actually Being There
I get asked all the time how I have so much time to play around on social media. The truth is, I don’t, and I’m not. I have two babies that I am taking care of. I am a freelancer and blogger in my spare time. I don’t have time to sit around and play on Twitter or Instagram all day long. Pinterest on the other hand, I can always make time for (kidding!).
My secret: I schedule everything. Everything.
Twitter and Facebook – So how do I appear to be tweeting all day long? I schedule every tweet and most of my Facebook posts through Hootsuite. A lot of bloggers I follow also use Buffer. I don’t think there is a whole lot of difference between the two. They both schedule and shorten links for you. I love it because I can spend 10 minutes on Sunday night scheduling my tweets and Facebook posts (for the most part) for the entire week. It saves so much time because I don’t have to worry about it during the week and I don’t get addicted to my twitter feed every time I sit down to tweet. It is still important to share other’s tweets and interact with your followers, so don’t forget to do this daily.
Pinterest – For Pinterest, I use Tailwind. I tried the free month trial and was addicted! It is so nice to be able to schedule my blog posts on Pinterest and other’s pins as well. I love Tailwind because they tell you your peak times to pin every day. It is really helpful and I have seen an increase in repins since scheduling through them.
Instagram – There is no app that actually posts to your Instagram for you. There is however a way to save your edited photo and caption and schedule it to remind you to post at a certain time – Latergramme. Since using this app, I have been posting to Instagram more frequently and at the times of day I want to. It is so simple to use and I love it because it helps me schedule my edited photos for the week all in one sitting. Then, Latergramme alerts me when it is time to post and all I have to do is click through to Instagram and paste the caption in the description and post! It also saves a lot of time! I love Instagram and it is probably my favorite social media network. I do spend most of my time on here because I love seeing everyone’s lovely photos and being inspired by them!
So, there you have it! Those are my secrets to save time on social media and give the appearance that you’re always around, even when you’re wrestling a 22 month old and cleaning up spit up from a 5 month old!
Do you schedule your social media? How do you save time during the week?
Benefits of Drinking Water and How to Save with Filtered Water
This post is sponsored by Pfister Faucets but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
I learned a very valuable lesson during my pregnancy with Sophie-Rae. I need to drink more water. Preferably, filtered water. It was especially important during my pregnancy, but it is still extremely important today. I’m not only breastfeeding, I’m a mother. I am chasing around 2 kids under 2 every day, all day…and night. It’s not as glamorous as it sounds. I know you are all so jealous right about now. 😉
Water is so beneficial to our health and overall happiness. Why? Because it keeps you healthy and gives you energy! It definitely helps me keep moving during the day. Here are a few benefits to drinking water:
Healthy glowing skin
Rids the body of toxins
Energizes your body
Curbs your appetite
Keeps you focused
Not only am I trying to drink a lot more water these days, I also give water to my son and use filtered water for my daughter’s formula bottles when I need them. I have been spending $5 on a case of bottled water every couple of weeks for all of us. That money really adds up. It is important to me that my family drinks healthy and clean water. After testing out tap water using a Water Testing Kit, I was totally grossed out – further confirming why I began drinking bottled water in the first place. After I heard about the Pfister Clarify Faucet, I knew I had to try it! This faucet is exclusively at Home Depot and is the only currently available faucet with Xtract technology.
Results of The Water Testing Kit:
Old Tap Water: I surprisingly found out that our tap water is not as bad as I thought it would be. That is good news for my neighbors! There is still room for improvement, however.
New Filtered Water Through the Clarify Faucet: The filtered water was definitely cleaner. It had lower levels of Copper, Iron and Chlorine.
Well, I think the results are pretty clear. I’m so thankful for our new water filter faucet. It is saving us so much money and is more environmentally safe which is an added bonus. I can pour it in my favorite water bottle and go! No more worrying about plastic.
Do you drink tap water or filtered water? Do you have a water purifier?

3. Twilight Tenth Anniversary Edition by Stephanie Meyers (includes new bonus content) Goodreads.com Synopsis: About three things I was absolutely positive.
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him – and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be – that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.
Taken in by a tough-loving Italian ices peddler, she manages to survive through cunning and inventiveness. As she learns the secrets of his trade, she begins to shape her own destiny. She falls in love with a gorgeous, illiterate radical named Albert, and they set off across America in an ice cream truck. Slowly, she transforms herself into Lillian Dunkle, “The Ice Cream Queen” — doyenne of an empire of ice cream franchises and a celebrated television personality.
Lillian’s rise to fame and fortune spans seventy years and is inextricably linked to the course of American history itself, from Prohibition to the disco days of Studio 54. Yet Lillian Dunkle is nothing like the whimsical motherly persona she crafts for herself in the media. Conniving, profane, and irreverent, she is a supremely complex woman who prefers a good stiff drink to an ice cream cone. And when her past begins to catch up with her, everything she has spent her life building is at stake.

But magic spells—like true love—can go awry. 9. The Wishing Thread by Lisa Van Allen
Goodreads.com Synopsis: The Van Ripper women have been the talk of Tarrytown, New York, for centuries. Some say they’re angels; some say they’re crooks. In their tumbledown “Stitchery,” not far from the stomping grounds of the legendary Headless Horseman, the Van Ripper sisters—Aubrey, Bitty, and Meggie—are said to knit people’s most ardent wishes into beautiful scarves and mittens, granting them health, success, or even a blossoming romance. But for the magic to work, sacrifices must be made—and no one knows that better than the Van Rippers.
When the Stitchery matriarch, Mariah, dies, she leaves the yarn shop to her three nieces. Aubrey, shy and reliable, has dedicated her life to weaving spells for the community, though her sisters have long stayed away. Bitty, pragmatic and persistent, has always been skeptical of magic and wants her children to have a normal, nonmagical life. Meggie, restless and free-spirited, follows her own set of rules. Now, after Mariah’s death forces a reunion, the sisters must reassess the state of their lives even as they decide the fate of the Stitchery. But their relationships with one another—and their beliefs in magic—are put to the test. Will the threads hold?
Every spring Sugar Wallace coaxes her sleepy honeybee queen—presently the sixth in a long line of Queen Elizabeths—out of the hive and lets her crawl around a treasured old map. Wherever the queen stops is their next destination, and this year it’s New York City.
Sugar sets up her honeybees on the balcony of an East Village walk-up and then––as she’s done everywhere since leaving South Carolina––she gets to know her neighbors. She is, after all, a former debutante who believes that manners make the world a better place even if they seem currently lacking in the big city.
Plus, she has a knack for helping people. There’s Ruby with her scrapbook of wedding announcements; single mom Lola; reclusive chef Nate; and George, a courtly ex-doorman. They may not know what to make of her bees and her politeness, but they can’t deny the magic in her honey.
And then there’s Theo, a delightfully kind Scotsman who crosses Sugar’s path as soon as she gets into town and is quickly besotted. But love is not on the menu for Sugar. She likes the strong independent woman she’s become since leaving the South and there’s nothing a charmer like Theo can do to change her mind . . . only her bees can do that.
The Wedding Bees is a novel about finding sweetness where you least expect it and learning to love your way home.
