le sigh tee: wake me up designs here
shorts: target

This week has been a very strange one. Hampton woke up with the sniffles on Sunday and then Monday he woke up with a cold. He sounded terrible. It has been pretty pitiful. There is nothing worse than your child feeling sick. Tuesday morning, I woke up completely congested and feeling terrible. It was not great timing because I had to deep clean our entire house for a meeting that night with our new realtor.

If you remember, I talked earlier in the year about us putting our house up for sale. It has been on the market for over 6 months now. We haven’t had any bites, but we have had many showings. For the record, selling your house is not pleasant. It has been rather miserable trying to keep the house spotless with a 9 month old who is into everything and also working from home…with your husband who is now working from home. When our contract ran up with our other realtor, we decided to search for a new one. While I am very confident in our new realtor, I’m not confident in this housing market. Since we put our house up for sale, 10 others have gone up in our neighborhood. Not great odds. It’s been a stressful and long process and we are really ready for it to be over. We need a larger house with a little bit more space and an office so that we don’t have to work on our coffee table anymore. It’s not ideal. I know that God’s timing is perfect and I am trying to be patient and know that it will sell when it’s supposed to. Until then, I’m just going to keep swimming and make it better with a lot of prayer and a little retail therapy. Swoon.

Hampton and I are feeling much better today, and I am looking forward to a semi-quiet weekend with my sister who is coming to stay with us tonight! I can’t wait to see her and have some much needed sissy time!

destin florida

Destin is my favorite beach to visit. No offense to Gulf Shores, but Destin’s waters are so clear (most of the time). I am really funny about getting out in the ocean. I’m not trying to get eaten by a shark. No thanks. This trip, I actually felt comfortable being out there. I could see the bottom of the ocean at shoulder length deep water, so I felt okay about it…until the one day when the life guards ran frantically down the beach blowing their whistles and yelling to get out of the water. It turned out to just be a school of fish. haha It was still exciting, though.

baby
This was Hampton’s first time to see the ocean. He loved the sand (and may have eaten some), but he wasn’t a huge fan of the waves. He definitely prefers the pool, but he will get used to it and learn to love it if he is anything like his parents.

beach

We enjoyed a lot of sun, and food, but my favorite part of the trip was walking on the beach with Ryan and Hampton our last evening there. The sunset was beautiful. I hope to go back to Destin before the summer ends, but I don’t know if it will happen. We will see!

Where have you traveled this summer? Do you have any other trips planned?

Is my itty-bitty newborn baby really 8 months old? Say it isn’t so!

Hampton,

You are growing up way too fast for mommy. This month you started crawling and pulling up on everything! You love cords, hair and anything you can chew on. You have also started climbing everything, which is a little scary considering you are so tiny and aren’t quite strong enough. You are a very determined little booger. You weigh 19 pounds and are still wearing size 9 month clothes. I do love to put you in big t-shirts. You love to watch The Cat in the Hat and Thomas the Train. Your favorite toys are your Thomas train and your Daniel Tiger (that you sleep with). You got your first tooth (finally, whew) and your second one is coming in now! You have grown so much and have changed a lot this month. You are talking a lot more and you laugh all the time. You have the sweetest hardy chuckle that makes everyone smile. Your nursery workers at church love you to pieces and I get compliments on your excellent behavior every week. You must get that from your daddy. You reach for us all the time now and you are going through a phase where you always want to be held. I really don’t mind it and actually would love for you to be like this for a while, but I hear that will change pretty soon, so I’m trying to take it all in, every moment.

I love you my little prince.

Hi there! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I can’t hold it in any longer so without further ado, I’m excited to announce that I will be joining the Alabama Women Bloggers as the Blogger of the Month Correspondent! I have been working with these ladies for a couple of weeks now, preparing and learning the ins and outs and I have loved getting to know them. I’ve also met some pretty incredible Alabama Bloggers that I didn’t even know existed. Who knew there were so many? I have also been re-branding and gained a few new followers lately, so I have been wanting to reintroduce myself to all of the newbies. I’m excited to get reacquainted with some of you and get to know others for the first time. So here is a little about me…

Lauri Ann Photography

My name is Logan and I blog at Logan Can (formally, Southern Sunflowers and Coffee Beans) about my life as a new mom, fashion, books, fitness and whatever else comes to my mind.. My birthday is August 8th, 1988…Can you guess what my lucky number is? I’ve been blogging for almost 2 years now, although I have taken two mini breaks in between – once when I was really sick during my pregnancy and again right after I had my sweet Hampton. I started blogging to write book reviews, because I’m a bit of a book hoarder lover, and to journal my life as a newlywed. It quickly became an outlet for my writing/journaling and I have loved every minute of it. I wasn’t expecting to become friends with so many amazing women. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a “blogging community” until I was several months into blogging. That is when I discovered link-ups and found all types of different bloggers that I had something in common with. We started emailing, tweeting, talking on the phone etc. and have formed actual friendships.

I was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, where I have lived my entire life – other than a few months that I lived in Auburn during my college years.

I married Ryan in October 2011. After 9 months of trying, several needles, and a few medications I became pregnant with my precious baby boy. He was born October 24, 2013. October is a pretty big month for us. My boys have been my biggest blessings. They bring me so much joy and laughter every day.

I graduated college in May 2011 with a degree in psychology. I had every intention on going back after getting married, but I still haven’t started back. I am kind of weird and actually enjoyed school. Especially my major. I have a heart for helping people and I feel like that is a huge calling in my life. Over the past few years, God has revealed that to me more and more because of certain people and situations he has placed in my life. I love to encourage others and give them hope. I would love to go back to school and become a counselor or a Psychologist, I just haven’t done it yet. Since graduation day – literally – I have worked as a web content manager for local restaurants and lawyers. It’s boring, but allows me to be home with Hampton while still bringing in the bacon.

I love to travel with my husband. It is a huge passion of ours. We actually just got back from a quick trip to Orlando. We love to visit new places and see new things. There are so many places I would love to move to, but you know that saying “there’s no place like home.” It’s true. I would miss our families so much if we moved, however, nothing is certain and we could move at any moment with Ryan’s slightly unpredictable job. We went to London and Paris for our honeymoon and it was one of the best memories of my life. It still feels like a dream that we went there. I feel like I could adapt to living in either of those cities. I’ve also always thought it would be so neat to live in California. Either the San Francisco area or maybe even Napa Valley. Speaking of, we are planning a trip to San Fran in the fall! We are so excited. I’m pretty adaptable, so I think I could really live anywhere, but I do think it would be tough to be too far away from our family.

As far as entertainment, I love, love, love to read, so when I get a free moment I usually turn to a book. When I’m not in the mood to read, I do turn on the T.V. to either Gilmore Girls or New Girl. I love the quick smart humor that GG gives us. Plus, it’s the best written show in the world. How can you not love it? I am also a huge movie buff. I thank my dad for that. It’s in my blood. I love any and all chick flicks, comedies and some action movies. I can’t handle all of that sci-fi mess. it’s definitely not my thing.

I actually have a whole post written on music and have yet to hit that Publish button. I am not really sure why. I’ll post it soon because I love music. I grew up dancing and continued to dance all through college. I have been exposed to so many genres of music over my life and have an extremely wide variety of taste. I was also raised by this man named Tommy, my dad, who forced me to listen to all things 70’s rock and old country. Thanks, dad. Side note, he was on tour with Molly Hatchet. If you don’t know who they are, google them. Needless to say, some of my favorites are: Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffet, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Red Hot Chili Peppers….I could go on all day. Seriously. Be on the lookout for my post on music later next week.

I love to dance, read, drink coffee, blog, play with my little Monkey, write, play on social media, shop and recently I’ve been running. Dancers don’t run, y’all, but I’ve been trying. I have a huge passion for fitness and health. While I do still enjoy my pizza and Chinese food, I try to eat healthy and live an active lifestyle. My husband and I really enjoy hiking and going for evening strolls. Back in January, I discovered the Tone It Up girls and joined their community. They helped me lose all of my baby weight…plus 10 pounds. I’m back to my high school weight. It’s kind of crazy. Follow my TIU account on Instagram if you’d like to follow my fitness journey. My favorite color is lime green, although if leopard print were a “color” that would be my favorite. I am constantly inspired by my family, Hampton, and all of you lovely ladies. You are all so talented and encouraging. That’s why I love to blog.

My dream job is to become a travel blogger or write for a travel magazine. I can’t imagine how amazing that would be. To actually get paid to travel and write about food, museums, hotels, etc. I mean, I would do that for free. Can you imagine getting paid to do it? I follow so many successful travel blogs and they amaze and inspire me.

This year, I am most looking forward to our trips to Chicago and San Francisco, watching my baby grow during his first year of life (he is changing so much every day), celebrating our 3rd anniversary, and hopefully growing this blog space of mine. I am venturing out and starting to do a little bit of fashion blogging (if you haven’t already noticed) and it has been a lot of fun. They have become some of my favorite posts, and according to my stats, they are your favorites as well. I am really looking forward to getting to know more of you, and of course all of my Alabama ladies! I will be hunting down Bloggers of the Month every month and working with them, so be on the lookout for me! I’ve already enjoyed getting to know our June Blogger of the Month. Be sure to stop by and say hello to Catherine. She is kind of awesome.

What are you looking forward to this year? What do you love most about blogging?

Where did my little newborn Hammy go? Now you’re all big and squishy! I do love to love on you and your rolls. You have grown so much and have changed a lot over the last month. You are sitting up more, playing with new toys like your remote, laughing and cackling at the most random things and your new favorite trick – scooting. You are scooting all over the place. You’re rocking on all fours but haven’t crawled yet. It will be any day now. You still don’t have any teeth, but you have been pretty miserable this last month and we are finally seeing two little white slits in your gums. You love to scoot into our bedroom to stare at yourself in the mirror. We love watching you check yourself out. I mean, you do look good. You are getting into everything and you are keeping me and daddy very busy and active. You love your baby food especially bananas, apples, sweet potatoes and peas. You make us smile and laugh every day. You are already so smart and advanced – no really. Everyone tells me that you are doing things you shouldn’t do for several more months. It makes me proud. You love to read and chew on everything including mommy’s computer cord. I love you so much it hurts.

Memorial Weekend was so busy for us, a good busy. We had an amazing weekend. Hampton and I had a play date with a dear friend of mine and her baby boy who is one month older than Hamp. We had the opportunity to catch up and the boys had a blast.

We drove to Dothan on Friday night to my cousin’s graduation. It is that time of year, graduations, weddings and birthday parties galore. We are so proud of her! She is the tenth and last grandchild in our family to graduate from high school.

Saturday we attended a crawfish boil. It was a lot of fun. I skipped the crawfish part because I just can’t seem to eat my food when I see it crawling around before it’s cooked. Gross. We enjoyed the pool for a while. It was Hampton’s first time in the pool. He loved it…for a while and then got tired.

Don’t you love his socks? That’s America, folks!

Sunday we took a break from festivities and I caught up on some housework. Laundry is so much fun!

Monday we had pizza and laid by the pool all day. We played dominoes with my family for a while that night. I spent some much-needed time with my family and saw great friends as well. It was the perfect holiday weekend.

What are some of your firsts?

My first Mother’s Day was such a blessing. Hampton and Ryan brought me roses in bed and Hampton gave me a clay print of his tiny little hands. It was the sweetest most thoughtful gift I’ve ever received and I will treasure it forever.

We went to lunch with my mom and spent some time with my family yesterday afternoon which was also a huge blessing. I haven’t spent time with my whole family like that in a while, so it was nice to have everyone together.

While I’ve got you here, feel free to enter this giveaway that I’m a part of hosted by Shana at Organized Chaos. 🙂

How did you spend your Mother’s Day?

Being a mother has been the biggest blessing of my life. Even through the tough moments, I look at Hampton and still can’t believe he is here. He is all mine! It is bizarre. This little tiny human is my precious baby boy. He brings me such joy. He makes me smile many times a day. My heart has been so full since the day I met him. Being a mother is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s the best thing. I feel like this is what I was meant to be. This is the journey God meant for me. Motherhood, there’s nothing like it.

Hampton, I will never forget the way you hold my finger while you are eating your bottle, or the way you look up at me with those big brown eyes and smile so big and bright. You melt my heart. I hope I will always remember you as you are now. You have such a kind and gentle temperament and I love to watch you play with your toys and discover new things. You are growing so fast and are so curious. I love you to the moon and back. You are my biggest blessing. I’m so glad God chose me to be your mommy.

Happy Mother’s day to all of the mothers out there! To those expecting their first child, enjoy your day. To those who are trying to start a family and have been unsuccessful, my heart is with you today. Don’t ever give up.

My baby is 6 months old. Half a year has gone by already. It is unreal. Didn’t we just get back from the hospital? Where did my little newborn go? Hampton weighed 17 lbs. 4 oz. (50%) and was 27 1/2 inches long (90%) at his appointment last week. He is sitting up and eating baby food. He loves bananas and apples the most. He is in size 3 diapers and is wearing 6-9 month clothes. He is rolling and scooting all over the floor and loves his bouncer. He is teething and drooling like crazy but no teeth have popped through. The Doctor said it would be any day now. I hope she’s right. My baby is so happy and smiles constantly. He is laughing, playing and changing every day. We are pretty sure he is saying “Mama.” Too soon you say? Well, I’ve heard it and so have about 15 other people. I’m choosing to believe he is saying it intentionally. One minute you’re bringing your baby home from the hospital, the next he’s turning 6 months old, going off to school, then college then getting married. I tell you what. It is just nuts. Stay little, baby Hamp!
