Weekend Update

February 9, 2015

This weekend was equally crazy, scary, exciting, fun and about a million other emotions. At my doctor appointment on Thursday, we found out that when our insurance policy changed, so did the amount of money we will owe the hospital after baby. Let’s just say that number grew by an extra zero. So there was that. Even better? We had just purchased brand new furniture the day before and it was literally being delivered to our house while I was at the doctor. To say that news stressed me out is an understatement.

We are absolutely thrilled about our new couch and chairs. It is so exciting and terrifying to make a big purchase like that, but I’m so thankful we did and our house finally feels like it is coming together a bit more. I even caught Hampton enjoying his bible stories book on one of our new chairs. As soon as he spotted me with the camera, he began showing off. haha He is a mess.

Friday and Saturday, Hampton stayed with his grandparents while Ryan and I attended a marriage conference. It was such a blessing to gather with other Christians and refocus our marriage on God and putting Him in the middle of our relationship. We learned a lot about how to deal with conflict and decisions which was really interesting and definitely encouraged us.

All in all it was a great weekend. New furniture, working on our love, and a baby-free night! While I did miss Hampton terribly, it was so nice to have a night off. We haven’t had that in a very long time.

How was your weekend?

Simple Cleaning Schedule

September 26, 2014

spring-cleaning

Because we are trying to sell our house, it is important to keep it as clean as possible. We have people ask to look at our house all the time. They randomly knock on our door or schedule appointments 20 minutes before coming to view our home, and so rather than putting myself in a position to panic, I try to stick to this cleaning schedule to ensure that our house is mostly clean all of the time.

Every day

Pick up toys and living spaces every night before bed.

Monday

Laundry

Tuesday

Floors (Sweep, Vacuum, Mop)

Clean off Counters and Surfaces in Kitchen and Bathrooms

Wednesday

Dust

Clean Window Seals

Thursday

Bathrooms/Kitchen

Friday

Floors (Sweep, Mop, Vacuum)

Clean out Fridge

Saturday

Catch up day

De-clutter closets and cabinets if they need it.

Clean the baby toys

Sunday is rest day!

Do you have any housekeeping tips? What would you add to my list?

le sigh

August 1, 2014

le sigh tee: wake me up designs here
shorts: target

This week has been a very strange one. Hampton woke up with the sniffles on Sunday and then Monday he woke up with a cold. He sounded terrible. It has been pretty pitiful. There is nothing worse than your child feeling sick. Tuesday morning, I woke up completely congested and feeling terrible. It was not great timing because I had to deep clean our entire house for a meeting that night with our new realtor.

If you remember, I talked earlier in the year about us putting our house up for sale. It has been on the market for over 6 months now. We haven’t had any bites, but we have had many showings. For the record, selling your house is not pleasant. It has been rather miserable trying to keep the house spotless with a 9 month old who is into everything and also working from home…with your husband who is now working from home. When our contract ran up with our other realtor, we decided to search for a new one. While I am very confident in our new realtor, I’m not confident in this housing market. Since we put our house up for sale, 10 others have gone up in our neighborhood. Not great odds. It’s been a stressful and long process and we are really ready for it to be over. We need a larger house with a little bit more space and an office so that we don’t have to work on our coffee table anymore. It’s not ideal. I know that God’s timing is perfect and I am trying to be patient and know that it will sell when it’s supposed to. Until then, I’m just going to keep swimming and make it better with a lot of prayer and a little retail therapy. Swoon.

Hampton and I are feeling much better today, and I am looking forward to a semi-quiet weekend with my sister who is coming to stay with us tonight! I can’t wait to see her and have some much needed sissy time!

Buying and Selling

March 31, 2014

You may remember I posted about our bathroom demolition a couple of weeks ago. It is good as new and fully functional again. Thank goodness.

Now, about this buying and selling business. Why has no one warned me that it is miserable trying to sell your house? Holy cow. I’m talking about getting a phone call at 9pm after you’ve had a long day with a teething baby saying “Hi, we want to show your home tomorrow morning between 9 and 10.” Are you serious? I’m talking about loading your car full of your dirty laundry and baby gadgets at 10pm then scrubbing your house clean into the night, leaving your house 15 minutes prior to the appointment only to get a phone call letting you know that the couple cancelled because of the rain. Is this real life? Yes. It has been my life for the last 2 months now. I’m pretty sure the only thing worse than buying a house is selling a house. At least, I hope that’s true.

Snow Day in Alabama

January 29, 2014

If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen the fun my family had in the snow! It’s not every day that it snows in Alabama. It’s a pretty big deal. Unfortunately because it never snows here, we do not have proper equipment and plans on how to deal with all of the ice and snow. There are a lot of families who were separated overnight due to this winter storm and people stranded on the interstate. I know several people who had to ditch their cars and walk home from work yesterday and others who had to leave their children overnight at their schools. There are also countless stories of people helping each other which always restores my faith in humanity. Luckily, my family was safe at home and got to enjoy the 2 snow days that we were blessed with. I hope all of you were able to stay safe and warm at home with your loved ones.

Demolition

January 20, 2014

If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw this picture that I posted earlier. My family has been going through a lot of changes these last couple of weeks and forced to make a lot of difficult decisions. Because Ryan and I both work from home now and recently had our sweet baby H, we have really outgrown our little starter home. We are always on top of each other and having H here while we work is a wonderful blessing but it is also very distracting.

We decided that we needed to go ahead and put our house up for sale and start looking for a new home. We have actually been keeping our eyes open for a place but haven’t had any luck in the last year. We have come to the decision to build a home. We already found the builder we want to use and have already discussed the floor plan. The tough part is deciding where to build. We will either build in a neighborhood we found recently that is fairly new, or we may even be moving out of our hometown. We still have a lot of things to figure out and work through. The big thing is selling our home.

We have to sell our house before we can start building. In order to do this quickly, we have been really working on our house to de-clutter it, clean it really good and fix things that we have been needing to do for quite some time. On the list is our bathroom. It is terrible. When we moved in, it had hideous wallpaper and carpet. Carpet, y’all. Ewe. There is nothing like selling your house to make you want to finally redo these things. Anyways…demolition started today and will continue the next couple of days. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Please pray that our house sells quickly. This will probably be a long process because we will likely move into an apartment while we are building so it will be an interesting year or so. Here’s to taking a leap of faith!
