Keeping New Years Resolutions or staying on track with our goals can be extremely difficult after the new year, new you motivation starts to wear off. For me that is usually around week 3. When that diet starts getting really tough or you are really sore from working out and want just one day off. You know what I’m talking about? This year, I didn’t even start implementing my new year goals until last Monday, so I am still going strong, but I like to think that is in part due to my determination and also to a new yummy protein snack that I will share with you in a bit.
How do you stay on track? For me, that started with cleaning out my refrigerator the week before I knew I would start my exercise routine, school started back, and we started getting into an all new routine that works for the entire family. After cleaning out the fridge and throwing out all the “junk” I vowed to only allow healthy snacks and foods back in. So, next I made the grocery list.
Another goal of ours is to do a better job of meal-planning. We sat down and went over the first few meals we would make, healthy snacks for the kids, lunch foods and breakfast foods and then we went shopping. Sticking to our list also helped us stay on budget which is another one of our goals…to save a certain amount of money every month. After all, we have to start saving for our kid’s futures.
The health of our bodies is the most important thing to us and something we wanted to work on this year. Not just because of the New Year, but this has been a thought about and planned for thing with our family for many reasons. By making the choice to be healthier, it has also made us more organized and our life is more budget-friendly overall. One of my favorite protein snacks is the new Dannon Oikos Protein Crunch Yogurt. I believe that staying on track comes when you create the habit. In my case, this one change (eating healthier) has created other small changes which are helping us dominate all of our goals (meal-planning, budgeting, etc.) For me, realizing that if I slip up with that, all of our goals and accomplishments would come crashing down is enough to keep me going. Also, because this involves my entire family and not just myself. That really helps light the fire under me to get it done.
