How to Prepare Your Car for a Safe Road Trip With Kids

This spring and summer, I am very excited to do a little bit of traveling! We have a trip coming up later this month, one in May, and two possible trips in June! I love to travel, and while we haven’t done as much exploring since we have had kids, we are trying to make more of an effort this year – even if that means we take them with us! You may recall that we just took a road trip over spring break to Florida. Seven hours in a car with the three babies. It was long, but they actually did a lot better than I had anticipated. We went through several rural areas and all I could think about was if something happened to the car, what would we do?

How to Prepare Your Car for a Safe Road Trip with Kids

Luckily, I have a pretty handy husband who always takes such great care of our cars – especially if we are about to go on a road trip. Ryan is the type of guy that does not like to pay anyone to do a job he is perfectly capable of doing himself. Yard man? Nope. Change the oil? Not likely. Change the cabin air filter? He’s our guy! Always.

FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filter

Here are ways that we prepare our car for a safe road trip:

Change the oil

Clean it out and vacuum so that we can enjoy five minutes of clean before the kids enter the vehicle.

Rotate the tires and check the air pressure.

Change the cabin air filter to the FRAM Fresh Breeze® Cabin Air Filter we purchased at Walmart – it smells so fresh and clean!

Put extra diapers and wipes in the car for emergencies.

Check the kid’s carseats to make sure they are secure.

Fill the gas tank.

Pack jumper cables.

Check spare tire for air.

Road Trip Essentials

This time of year (especially in the south) pollen and allergens are at a high. My allergies have already been bad. Changing the cabin air filter ensures that your family is breathing fresh clean air that is free of allergens. It helps keep your family safe and healthy while riding in the car for several hours! Did you know that the cabin air filter needs to be changed annually or every 12,000 miles? It is often overlooked and is so easy to change yourself! The air your breathe in your car can get up to 6Xs dirtier than the air outside – gross – but you can easily protect your family with the FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter that filters up to 98% of dust, dirt and allergens! These filters are the only kind that use natural deodorizing qualities of ARM & HAMMER® baking soda from the contaminants that enter your vehicle.

Road Trip

If you are a little hesitant to do anything when it comes to your car, FRAMFreshBreeze.com has easy installation guides in their part lookup via video and written instructions. There is even a texting feature that sends your search results right to your phone so that you will have a quick and easy in-store experience when buying your filters at Walmart!

Just know that changing the air filter has given me complete peace of mind having my babies (and myself) in the car for several hours. Breathing fresh, clean air is a must for me!

How to Change a Cabin Air Filter

How to Install the FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter:

Open and remove the glove box.

Remove the air filter tray.

Slide the new filter in the tray and slide the tray back in the slot.

Put your glove box back in and you are good to go!

It is so easy! Of course, I just watched my husband change ours, but it was very simple to do!

*Follow recommended change intervals as noted in your vehicle owner’s manual.

Great tips! I hardly ever think of rotating tires before the trip, but it’s an important one.

Great post! I’ve never thought to use a car air filter! I just stick with the filters that they use with an oil change. I could probably bring them this to use instead.
