Fall is definitely my favorite time of year for fashion. I love boots, scarves, leggings and the rich colors of fall. Being comfy and cozy is a must for me this time of year. I like to wear cute affordable clothes that allow me to chase after two kiddos, but still make me feel good. When I make myself get up and get dressed in the mornings, it helps me be a lot more productive and feel better about myself – especially if I have to run errands. When I stay at home all day, it can be very tempting to stay in my pajamas or sweatpants all day. I have just made up my mind to make myself do it and it has definitely increased my productivity.

I recently bought these leggings and I am totally in love with them. They are the most comfortable pair I own. In fact, I am probably going to buy them in another color as well. I’m wearing the grey/beluga but they definitely look more olive green in person. I also recently purchased this striped top which is also so comfy. I goes great with everything and I love that you can dress it up or down. As far as my wool socks, they are a must for the cooler months. Socks are kind of my thing. I love them so!

I’ve linked up a few of my other favorites below! What are some of your favorite things for the fall season?

During the Holidays, I love to make holiday themed snacks and meals for my son. It’s something we both enjoy doing – making messes in the kitchen, getting our hands a little dirty, and eating! My only issue with this time of year is that most recipes are full of unhealthy ingredients. I like to try to find healthier alternatives when I can, especially for my son. When he eats a lot of sugar, he is a different kid. He starts acting crazy and wild and it normally ends in a tantrum. Because of this, I try to avoid giving him sugar as much as possible or at least limiting the amount he eats.

Pumpkin pies are a fall favorite of mine. I thought it would be fun to create mini pumpkin pies using Keebler® Ready Crust® Mini Graham Cracker Pie Crust, Dannon Oikos® Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt, and Reddi Wip® from Walmart as a healthier version for my son as a special holiday themed snack.

This was such a fun activity and way to spend quality time with H and I felt so much better about feeding him this healthier version of a pumpkin pie instead of an actual one. The best part? It was delicious!

Tomorrow is Halloween! It kind of snuck up on me this year. Our family has wild plans to go to my grandmother’s and hang out with family and of course, do a little trick-or-treating! I’m excited to get the kids all dressed up in their costumes to show everyone how cute they are! We participated in our church’s Trunk or Treat Wednesday and had so much fun seeing our friend’s kids all dressed up. I love how some people go all out and really get creative.

What are your Halloween plan this weekend?

Halloween is in 2 days! T W O! I am so excited! We have ha a lot going on with Trunk or Treat last night and getting ready for this weekend’s festivities! My cousin is coming into town and we are really more like best friends rather than cousins. We talk multiple times a week and keep each other sane in this crazy world. I love her to death and have missed her so much, so I am getting really excited to see her. And, I may have just squealed a little. Now, on to the candy corn. I mean, punch.

Candy_Corn_Punch_Recipe

This past Sunday, our life group met at our house and because it was the week of Halloween, I wanted to make some yummy punch to mix things up a little and make it a little more festive to get everyone in the pumpkin spirit. Plus, I challenged myself to at least one new recipe a week, and I slacked off last week, so I figured this would sort of make up for it. Right?  I looked at some recipes and kind of did a variation of several mixed together just to experiment a little and it turned out to be delicious! In fact, I downed the entire glass after I took these photos! So good.

So, here’s how you make this wonderful candy corn concoction:

Ingredients:

5 Cups of Orange Juice
6 Cups of Ginger Ale
1 Cup of Pineapple Juice (I used organic)
A Handful of Candy Corn

Directions:

Pour 4 cups of ginger ale in a bowl and put the handful of candy corn in it to soak for two hours in the refrigerator. After that, strain the candy corn out of the liquid and pour the candy corn/ginger ale mixture into your punch bowl. Mix in 2 more cups of chilled Ginger Ale, 5 cups or Orange Juice and 1 cup of Pineapple Juice in the punch bowl and mix it very well. Garnish your table with candy corn and fun Halloween straws and you are good to go!

This recipe is so easy and really delicious! Plus, it’s orange, so it is perfect for all of your fall and Halloween themed parties! I hope you enjoy it!

P.S, Are you dressing up for Halloween? What are you going to be?

Lately, I have been feeling so much pressure to be perfect. It’s easy for me to start feeling this way if I start paying more attention to my peripherals than looking to my own path and future. I’m constantly questioning myself and if I’m doing the right thing by staying home and blogging instead of working. I feel like my house has to stay perfect. Even when no one is coming, the thought that someone might stop by or want to look at our house in 20 minutes still eats away at me, so I’m constantly worried about that.

Recently, I have been loving jewelry more than normal. I can’t get enough of it. I came across these beautiful bangles from Inspired Silver and fell in love with them. They are so versatile and can be dressed up or down. They were the perfect accessory to our pumpkin day!
Last weekend when we were at the pumpkin patch, I had Ryan take these photos for me. What you don’t see pictured is SR crying because she was hot in her stroller and Hamp trying to eat the sunflowers and run off the trail. In the middle of these pictures, I just started laughing because, in these situations, what else can you do? Sometimes family is crazy and acting nuts out in public and you have to take advantage of the photo opp. It’s just life.

Once we got to the pumpkin patch, I decided I wanted to hunt for the imperfect pumpkin this year. Everyone hunts for the roundest, prettiest pumpkin, and I feel sad for the others. I found my perfectly imperfect pumpkin and gave it a home. And we both lived happily ever after…
But, seriously. Life is not perfect. We live in an age where people live by social media and what their next photo uploaded will be. It is easy to get mixed up in wanting to be perfect and feeling awful when we fall short. Be good at what you’re good at – whether that’s fashion, cooking, running, crafting, writing, taking care of people – whatever! Do what you do and don’t worry about the rest. No one is good at everything, even when they appear to be. It is easy to make yourself look like you have everything together when you get to choose the pictures you post to social media, but things are very rarely what they seem. The older I get, the more this is revealed to me.
God has been trying to teach me some very hard lessons lately. I prayed to forgive someone I have had a hard time forgiving lately and even had one of my small groups pray for this specifically. Since then, Satan has been testing me big time. This person has tested me, too. It’s been very difficult. Through these less than perfect circumstances, I find encouragement because I know that God gives trials to us that he knows we can endure. He is making me stronger and building my faith more than ever. That is the victory and the beauty in the imperfect life.

Last weekend, we took the kids to Dreamfield Farms Pumpkin Patch for Hamp’s birthday. We had such a good time picking out our pumpkins, but the biggest hit for the birthday boy was by far the inflatable slide. He was a little obsessed. I love capturing SR’s first pumpkin patch experience and seeing our son have so much fun! It was definitely a great weekend.

My only complaint was that we went early and it was STILL blazing hot. Why can’t Alabama feel like fall during the season? I was determined to make it at least look like fall, but don’t let the scarf fool you, it was hot. In fact, I ditched the scarf moments after this photo was taken and the hair went up. Hamp thought that the wind blowing my hair in his face was so funny. I love this boy so much and still can’t believe he is 2! I am one blessed mama.

Halloween has been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember, but it has been made even better since having kids. I enjoy picking out their Halloween costumes (while I still can – sort of), making cute little crafts, participating in our church’s trunk or treat and making yummy Halloween recipes! Last week, I decided to make H a fun little Halloween themed lunch! He wasn’t feeling great and I wanted to make him a special treat to lift his spirits.

Halloween_Recipes

One of H’s current favorite foods is of course, – the hotdog. #AmericanKid Since this is his favorite, I decided to make Mummy Dogs. The perfect Halloween themed lunch!

Pillsbury
Crescent_Rolls

I preheated the oven to 375 and while I waited for it to heat, I rolled out my Pillsbury crescent rolls and grabbed my pizza cutter and began to cut thin strips. After I had several cut, I dried off my hotdog wieners and began wrapping the strips around them. I didn’t try to make it perfect and in fact, I noticed that the sloppier I got with it, the better they looked, so don’t be afraid to go a little crazy.

Halloween_Food

I left a little room for the eyes for after they baked. After they were all wrapped up, I placed them on a cookie sheet and popped them in the over for 9 minutes (or until golden brown). Once they were finished, I let them cool for a couple of minutes and then used mustard as eyeballs. I added a little ketchup (or in this case “blood”) to H’s plate because he loves to dip everything.

These were a huge hit with my son! I think I will make it a little tradition in our house to make these every October. They are so easy and a big hit with the kids!

Thank you to Nickelodeon for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to customize Halloween for me and my family thanks to Party City!

We are getting so excited for Halloween! It is by far my favorite holiday as it is during my favorite season and centered around pumpkins, dressing up in fun costumes and sweets! I have had SR’s Halloween costume for months. Yes, months. Before she was even born, I knew what she would be for Halloween and I planned accordingly. This year, H is old enough to where he can now tell me what he wants to be…apparently. I had a really cute little “couple costume” planned for the kids but oh, no! H wouldn’t have it. He knew exactly what he wanted to be! TMNT.

TMNT_Costume

With Ryan’s birthday party happening tomorrow, I had a few last minute decorations to grab while I was there including a birthday banner, confetti, and Halloween paper plates! As always, Party City saved the day because they had all of these items and so much more!

I had also sort of planned to make H a Halloween costume using the accessories at Party City, but I caved when I saw the adorable TMNT costume that he wanted. It was just too cute and he is so adorable in it. It was also the far easier option, and sometimes, I have to give into convenience.

What are your kid’s going to be for Halloween?

Since finishing Kate Morton’s latest novel a couple of weeks ago, I have been in such a reading mood. I’ve been reading non-stop. It has made me really excited to put together this fall reading list for the new season! There are so many great books out there that I want to read and even some from my Summer Reading List that I still have not made it around to. Here are a few new novels that I haven’t featured in any other reading list. Some of these are coming out this fall and others have been out for a while now. I am really excited to read them all!

After a particularly troubling case, Sadie Sparrow is sent on an enforced break from her job with the Metropolitan Police and retreats to her beloved grandfather’s cottage in Cornwall. There she finds herself at a loose end, until one day she stumbles upon an abandoned house surrounded by overgrown gardens and dense woods, and learns the story of a baby boy who disappeared without a trace.

A missing child…

June 1933, and the Edevane family’s country house, Loeanneth, is polished and gleaming, ready for the much-anticipated Midsummer Eve party. For Eleanor, the annual party has always been one of her treasured traditions, but her middle daughter, Alice, sixteen years old and with literary ambitions, is especially excited. Not only has Alice worked out the perfect twist for her novel, she’s also fallen helplessly in love with someone she shouldn’t. But by the time midnight strikes and fireworks light up the night sky, the Edevane family will have suffered a loss so great they leave Loeanneth and never return.

An unsolved mystery…

Seventy years later, in the attic writing room of her elegant Hampstead home, the formidable Alice Edevane leads a life as neatly plotted as the bestselling detective novels she writes. see-me

2. See Me by Nicholas Sparks
Goodreads.com Synopsis: See me just as I see you . . .

Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. With a history of violence and bad decisions behind him and the threat of prison dogging his every step, he’s determined to walk a straight line. To Colin, that means applying himself single-mindedly toward his teaching degree and avoiding everything that proved destructive in his earlier life. Reminding himself daily of his hard-earned lessons, the last thing he is looking for is a serious relationship.

Maria Sanchez, the hardworking daughter of Mexican immigrants, is the picture of conventional success. With a degree from Duke Law School and a job at a prestigious firm in Wilmington, she is a dark-haired beauty with a seemingly flawless professional track record. And yet Maria has a traumatic history of her own, one that compelled her to return to her hometown and left her questioning so much of what she once believed.

A chance encounter on a rain-swept road will alter the course of both Colin and Maria’s lives, challenging deeply held assumptions about each other and ultimately, themselves. As love unexpectedly takes hold between them, they dare to envision what a future together could possibly look like . . . until menacing reminders of events in Maria’s past begin to surface.

As a series of threatening incidents wreaks chaos in Maria’s life, Maria and Colin will be tested in increasingly terrifying ways. Will demons from their past destroy the tenuous relationship they’ve begun to build, or will their love protect them, even in the darkest hour?

Rich in emotion and fueled with suspense, SEE ME reminds us that love is sometimes forged in the crises that threaten to shatter us . . . and that those who see us for who we truly are may not always be the ones easiest to recognize.

3. Twilight Tenth Anniversary Edition by Stephanie Meyers (includes new bonus content) Goodreads.com Synopsis: About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him – and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be – that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.

ice-cream-queen

4. The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman

Goodreads.com Synopsis: In 1913, little Malka Treynovsky flees Russia with her family. Bedazzled by tales of gold and movie stardom, she tricks them into buying tickets for America. Yet no sooner do they land on the squalid Lower East Side of Manhattan, than Malka is crippled and abandoned in the street.

Taken in by a tough-loving Italian ices peddler, she manages to survive through cunning and inventiveness. As she learns the secrets of his trade, she begins to shape her own destiny. She falls in love with a gorgeous, illiterate radical named Albert, and they set off across America in an ice cream truck. Slowly, she transforms herself into Lillian Dunkle, “The Ice Cream Queen” — doyenne of an empire of ice cream franchises and a celebrated television personality.

Lillian’s rise to fame and fortune spans seventy years and is inextricably linked to the course of American history itself, from Prohibition to the disco days of Studio 54. Yet Lillian Dunkle is nothing like the whimsical motherly persona she crafts for herself in the media. Conniving, profane, and irreverent, she is a supremely complex woman who prefers a good stiff drink to an ice cream cone. And when her past begins to catch up with her, everything she has spent her life building is at stake.

Wishing-Thread

9. The Wishing Thread by Lisa Van Allen
Goodreads.com Synopsis: The Van Ripper women have been the talk of Tarrytown, New York, for centuries. Some say they’re angels; some say they’re crooks. In their tumbledown “Stitchery,” not far from the stomping grounds of the legendary Headless Horseman, the Van Ripper sisters—Aubrey, Bitty, and Meggie—are said to knit people’s most ardent wishes into beautiful scarves and mittens, granting them health, success, or even a blossoming romance. But for the magic to work, sacrifices must be made—and no one knows that better than the Van Rippers.

When the Stitchery matriarch, Mariah, dies, she leaves the yarn shop to her three nieces. Aubrey, shy and reliable, has dedicated her life to weaving spells for the community, though her sisters have long stayed away. Bitty, pragmatic and persistent, has always been skeptical of magic and wants her children to have a normal, nonmagical life. Meggie, restless and free-spirited, follows her own set of rules. Now, after Mariah’s death forces a reunion, the sisters must reassess the state of their lives even as they decide the fate of the Stitchery. But their relationships with one another—and their beliefs in magic—are put to the test. Will the threads hold?

Bees

10. The Wedding Bees: A Novel of Honey, Love and Manners by Sarah-Kate Lynch

Goodreads.com Synopsis: Sugar Wallace did not believe in love at first sight, but her bees did. . . .

Every spring Sugar Wallace coaxes her sleepy honeybee queen—presently the sixth in a long line of Queen Elizabeths—out of the hive and lets her crawl around a treasured old map. Wherever the queen stops is their next destination, and this year it’s New York City.

Sugar sets up her honeybees on the balcony of an East Village walk-up and then––as she’s done everywhere since leaving South Carolina––she gets to know her neighbors. She is, after all, a former debutante who believes that manners make the world a better place even if they seem currently lacking in the big city.

Plus, she has a knack for helping people. There’s Ruby with her scrapbook of wedding announcements; single mom Lola; reclusive chef Nate; and George, a courtly ex-doorman. They may not know what to make of her bees and her politeness, but they can’t deny the magic in her honey.

And then there’s Theo, a delightfully kind Scotsman who crosses Sugar’s path as soon as she gets into town and is quickly besotted. But love is not on the menu for Sugar. She likes the strong independent woman she’s become since leaving the South and there’s nothing a charmer like Theo can do to change her mind . . . only her bees can do that.

The Wedding Bees is a novel about finding sweetness where you least expect it and learning to love your way home.

Halloween is a big holiday for my family. We usually throw a big Halloween party and it is always so much fun. I love seeing all of the creative costumes everyone comes up with. Halloween has always been associated with fall – my favorite season with fun memories. Between Trunk or Treat, picking out the perfect costume and the best Halloween candy in the store, I love every part of the hooplah!

Halloween_Trunk_or_Treat

Since my nephew was born, my family has attended our church’s trunk or treat! It has become a fun little family tradition that was made all the more special when my son was born. We took him to his first trunk or treat last Halloween and now this year, we will take our daughter as well! I’ve been planning their costumes since before SR was born and I am so excited about this particular year. While you will have to wait for their costumes, I will reveal how I prepare for our Trunk or Treat.

Trunk or Treat Tutorial:

1. Choose a theme.

2. Buy your candy! I ran out to Walmart to grab 2 large variety Hershey candy bags. I love having an assortment so that the kids can choose which kind of candy they want. My personal favorite? Milk chocolate Hershey’s bars and Reese’s! I love these bags because they are so festive with ghosts, jack-o-lanterns and dracula.

3. Find something to put candy in. Get creative with your candy display, after all, my candy brings all  the kids to the trunk, right?

4. Decorate your trunk! Get as creative and festive as you want. Our church members go all out. Some people decorate the beds of their trucks, some bring haunting music, others keep it very simple and traditional. Sky’s the limit!

Halloween_Ideas

As you can see, I used a lot of fall decor as well as Halloween. I love witches and skeletons and knew that I wanted to use them. The hanging ghosts and orange lights were a bonus. The ribbon garland is actually the garland I used for Hampton’s first birthday party last year. I mostly used things I already had plus a lot of my mom’s decor. She is a decorator and has more Halloween themed decorations than I do.

Your trunk can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. The main points to focus on are coming up with a theme and making a great candy display to show off everyone’s favorite part of the holiday!
