Something Ryan and I try to do every day is start our day with prayer and gratitude. It is amazing how different things can look when you start the day being grateful for what you have than looking at Instagram at everything you don’t have. Can I get an Amen? When you really look around you, you start to see how truly blessed you are. I think it is even more important this time of year when we are being bombarded with wish lists, kids begging for every toy they see on TV, etc. We decided we needed to do something to help instill this discipline in our children. Hence, the Thanksgiving Prayer Jar!
I used an old mason jar and added some fun fall stickers to decorate it. We made a list as a family of things we are thankful for this year. I shared some of what the kids said on Insta-stories, but one thing that surprised me (and gave me a bit of a proud-mommy moment) was Sophie saying “God with is, all the time.” That brought tears to my eyes. Can we really do better than that one? I think not. A few other things that were said were “goldfish” – Weston and “Family” – Hamp. I said God’s grace, and forgiveness, Ryan said new tires! haha That’s a long story, but we are very thankful for those! We all agreed that we are very thankful for our new baby. 😉
We wrote all of the things we are thankful for on popsicle sticks and every day of November, we will choose a stick and prayer for that thing very specifically as a family. This way, we can teach our children to start their day with prayer and gratitude. It’s so simple but teaches so much. It will definitely teach and grow Ryan and me as well. I am constantly learning from my babies and their sweet hearts.
