How To Fall In Love With Running

August 28, 2015

running

Let me start off by first stating that you will probably hate running at first, at least, I did. Your body isn’t used to it. You may be overweight or, like me, just had a baby and are starting over which can be very frustrating. What I will tell you is, you will fall in love with your results from running, but this takes time. Here are some things you can do along the way that will help you fall in love with running:

-Entertain yourself. Whether you take this time to pray, meditate, listen to your favorite jams or whatever it is you do, do it. It will make the run more pleasant and enjoyable and may even help the time pass quickly. Oh, I already ran 2 miles? What?

-Eat right. Don’t ever eat right before you run. Give your body time to digest or you will get sick, cramp or your body won’t have enough energy to get through your run because it is busy digesting your food. Also, never ever drink soft drinks if you plan on running in the next couple of days. They cause terrible cramps. I learned this through my years of dance and it is not a fun experience.

-Drink up. Drink lots and lots of water and sometimes Gatorade – especially after a race.

-Warm up very well before every run. I like to do a few jumping jacks or jog in place for a minute to warm my muscles so that I can stretch properly for a few minutes. This will help you feel loose during your run and prevents injury. Don’t ever skip your warm-up.

-Don’t overdue it. Pushing yourself a little at a time is great, but don’t start off with the mindset of a half-marathoner and then be discouraged when you can’t breathe after only one mile. I speak from experience. Take your time. You can work up to your goals, but don’t overdue it. It is important to train properly. I have loved doing the Couch to 5k plan. It helped me start running a few years ago, but also helped me lose my baby weight after my first and second pregnancies. It’s a great plan that will really help you build your endurance and get back into those races!

Do you run? What tips do you have for a beginner?

Postpartum Weight Loss + Giveaway

July 30, 2015

This post is sponsored by Yoplait but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Be sure to make your #SweetSummer by checking out the latest Yoplait Yogurt and coupon!

postpartum

I’m so excited to tell you that I am now only 5 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight! I am so thankful, but I must admit that I have been working my tail off and it has not been easy. People have been asking me if I’ve been “wrapping” or doing Advocare, etc. but I am SO not a gimmick girl. I am a firm believer that the only way you will lose weight and keep it off is if you change your lifestyle.

Breakfast

Exercise – I have been exercising (almost) every day. Whether it’s a 3 mile jog or a 10 minute yoga video, I am making sure to move every day. When I plateaued about six weeks ago, I noticed a huge difference once I started exercising again. The weight finally started coming off.

Diet – I have started watching what I eat again. I am not going to sit here and tell you I’ve been perfect, because there is a slice of cookie cake from last week that will tell you I haven’t been. I am trying to eat healthier but I won’t be so strict to where I can’t enjoy life’s pleasures. One way I do this without totally ruining my diet is by eating yogurt. Yoplait has a new yogurt that has 25% less sugar in it! I have loved eating these and I even feel good about giving them to my son without worrying that he will be super hyper.

Determination – My husband will be the first to tell you that when I get an idea in my head, I won’t be satisfied until I do it. Some may call me stubborn, but I call it determination and dedication. 😉

Scheduling – I am a natural planner, but I have started making sure that I have written in my calendar when I will work out from day to day. Most of the time it happens at night or late afternoon when Ryan can watch the kids. Sometimes I take Hampton on my runs and leave SR with Ryan while she is taking a nap. Planning ahead will make it seem more important and you won’t have an excuse to not do it.

All I Need is Coffee and Mascara

July 8, 2015

coffee and mascara tank
Tank: c/o LINDSxoPRESSES // Fitness Leggings: c/o Lorna Jane // Shoes: Nike Frees

Most mornings, all I need (or have time for) is coffee and mascara. This tank truly says it all because it is basically my life right now. Some mornings, I barely even get a chance to drink my coffee. It all depends on the babies.

tank

With that being said, I have managed to exercise every day, but I haven’t quite established a workout schedule yet. I am basically working out when I can. Some days that means going to a late Zumba class, other days, I have to get up really early to run. It just depends on our schedules.

I promised I would give you guys updates periodically on my weight loss journey, so here goes…

fitness

I have finally started losing weight again. This has been a frustrating process because even though I was eating clean, breastfeeding and walking, I did not lose a single pound in over 4 weeks. It was beyond frustrating. Once I was cleared to exercise a couple of weeks ago, I really buckled down. I started C25K and am currently on week 5! I also continued to eat healthy and started using My Fitness Pal app again to keep up with my calories to make sure I did not eat too much sugar, carbs, etc.

mascara

It has definitely helped me a lot! I am now 8 lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight. We have less than 5 weeks til our cruise, so the chances of me losing all of it by then are slim, however, I am finally losing weight again and I am so thankful that I am getting healthier and closer to being able to wear my clothes again!

I absolutely love my LINDSxoPRESSES tanks! I ordered this one and another one that will show it’s face on my blog soon! They are so comfortable and go with anything! I can run in them, or I can pair them with jean shorts! Graphic tees and tanks are so “in” right now and I really love them! This adorable Etsy shop offers so many different colors, styles, and custom options. There are sizes for babies all the way through adults! Definitely check out all this shop has to offer! Be sure to keep up with the latest updates and styles on Facebook!

LINDSxoPRESSES is offering a Free Shipping code “LOGANCAN” for every order over $20!

Tips to Lose Weight

June 15, 2015

Tips to lose weight
I am pretty happy. And sore. Friday, I was (finally) cleared to workout again! I am thrilled! I’m happy to be healthy and to lose weight. I was so excited to get started that I immediately started C25K and jumped back into my tone it up workouts that day!

I can’t tell you how excited I am that my favorite trainers are keeping the bikini series spirit going with the bikini project challenge for the rest of the summer! I was super bummed to have missed the last few weeks of the bikini series, but now I feel like I’m getting a second chance to participate!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you may remember back when I began TIU after I had Hampton and these girls helped me lose all of my baby weight fairly quickly. I was back at my re-pregnancy weight by the time Hamp was 4 months old. I was so thankful to them and my stubbornness. 😉

Here I am 6 weeks postpartum and I still have 14 lbs. to lose to get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I haven’t lost any weight in the last 3 weeks despite my eating clean (minus a hotdog and dippin’ dots at a ballgame last week) I have still hung on to this weight. Could it be because I’m breastfeeding and my body is holding on to those pounds? I’m not sure. Either way, I’m happy to start exercising again and I am praying that it will be a game changer for me and that I can get the rest of this weight off.

Here are a few tips on how to lose those pesky last few pounds:

-Eat healthy and cut your calories (unless you’re breastfeeding, then just eat clean)
-Exercise every day
-Give yourself a splurge meal or day every week so you don’t get burnt out on your new diet
-Don’t give up. You will have weeks where you see no results. I promise you, the results will come. Just be stubborn enough to never give up. You can reach your goals.
-Mix up your exercises. Dance, run, bike, whatever you feel like doing and throw in strength training daily.
-Establish a routine. This one is difficult for me with a one month old and 19 month old, but the more you stick to a routine, the easier it will be for you and your family.

I will keep you updated on my progress throughout this weight loss journey in order to hold myself accountable. If you notice I haven’t posted about my diet or exercise in a while, leave me a comment reminding me of that cruise I’m going on in August! Yikes!

What tips do you have for losing weight?

The Importance of “Me Time”

June 3, 2015

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #V8EnergyBoost #CollectiveBias

me-time

During this first month after becoming a mother of 2 under 2, I have learned the importance of “me time.” My “me time” is very rare. In fact, it hasn’t happened more than a couple of times this month. It is so sacred and precious. During my “me time” I will go out to lunch with my bestie, or simply stay at home and enjoy a cup of coffee in silence or while I read my latest novel. It is rejuvenating and it always refreshes me to get away for a few minutes.

break

I haven’t been cleared to workout yet, but as soon as I do, I can’t wait to pick up an exercise routine again. I have missed it more than words can say. I have always struggled with anxiety, and for me, exercise has been so important in coping with that and relieving some of the stresses that anxiety brings. Until I can exercise I have been trying to watch what I eat. Coffee isn’t always the greatest choice for me because I load it with cream and sugar (no artificial sweeteners for me). Because I am also breastfeeding, I have to really watch my caffeine intake as well.

in-store

I am so excited to have discovered V8 V-Fusion+ Energy Drinks! They are a much healthier choice and are full of vitamins from a combined serving of fruit and vegetables. They are a natural energy drink, powered by green tea and Lord knows I need all the energy I can get. I grabbed a 6-pack of the V8 V-Fusion + Energy Drinks while shopping at Walmart the other day in the Orange Pineapple flavor. It did not disappoint. While I do not ever have plans to give up coffee, because I love and need my coffee, it is nice to drink one of these Energy Drinks as an alternative every once in a while or as an afternoon pick-me-up. They taste like fruit and only have 50 calories per 8oz. serving. Pretty awesome if you ask me!

5 Musts Haves for Postpartum + Poise Free Samples

May 6, 2015

Today’s post is sponsored by Poise, but my love for their LBL products is all my own! #RecycleYourPeriodPad

Get your Poise Free Samples here!

postpartum-essentials

I just got home from the hospital a couple of days ago after having my second child. While the recovery has seemed to be a little easier this time around, I have definitely been reminded of the importance of a few things I would not have made it without:

poise-lbl

–Pads
After two pregnancies, LBL is a real thing in my life. Just ask Ryan. He can make me laugh so hard sometimes that I pee. Literally. It’s not something I’m proud of, but it happens. It’s just part of life after babies, I suppose. Did you know 1 in 3 women experience LBL? It’s true. I love the new Poise Thin-Shaped liners because they are light and perfect for women who struggle with light bladder leakage.
-Compression Tanks
These have been wonderful for postpartum. They really hold everything into place and feel so great. I bought a couple of them from Motherhood Maternity and I am so thankful for them.
-Help
My mom and sister have been amazing help this week. They have helped me do laundry, clean and have really helped with the kiddos. It has been so nice to have the extra hands around here while I am still recovering and it has made life so much easier.
-Easy Snacks
I forgot how breastfeeding makes you feel SO hungry all the time. It has been really nice to have easy snacks that I can just grab and eat while I’m feeding Sophie-Rae.
-Rest
Getting plenty of rest has been easier this time around with all of my mom and sister’s help around here. It has been so nice to be able to really rest so that I can be alert for Hampton and SR!

How To Have A Healthy Pregnancy

April 21, 2015

How-To-Have-A-Healthy-Pregnancy

I’ve talked so much about how different this pregnancy has been compared to my first. Could it be because the genders are different? I don’t think so. I’ll be dead honest with you. I was not in a good place when I got pregnant with my first. I was depressed because we had been trying for 9 months with no luck, and the doctor was talking about putting me through all of these tests/treatments etc. It was not a happy time. Then, when I got pregnant, I jut wasn’t in the mood to workout. I didn’t care to eat super healthy. I literally let myself go. I was scared to barely move because I thought something would happen to H. Now that I was pregnant, I wasn’t going to do anything to mess it up. He was staying put. So, I sat. I didn’t walk or lift anything. It was kind of funny…in a sad way.

This time around, I have been very active. Even today, I am still exercising daily. Some days it may just be a walk around the block, but I’m moving every day. I’ve eaten more healthy. Definitely not clean by any means, but I have done a better job (aka no chocolate chip cookies every night) and the differences in my pregnancies have been incredible. I can still get in the floor and play with my toddler. I can still chase him around, exercise and cook dinner without feeling overwhelmingly tired or miserable. I feel so much better. So, here are some of my tips on how you can have a healthier pregnancy:

symptoms-of-pregnancy

-Stay Active. Don’t ever overdo it. Talk to your doctor about what exercises you should and should not be doing. Walking is so so good for you, but no laying on your back to do those crunches after 12 weeks. You CAN, however do standing crunches. 🙂 I have really enjoyed yoga during this pregnancy. The stretching and strength training has kept me feeling a lot better. My hips and back haven’t hurt as much and haven’t been so tight.

-Stay Mentally Healthy. Don’t worry yourself to death. Stay calm. Pray. Pregnancy comes with a lot of uncertainties. With my son, I thought if I walked too much he would fall out. That’s just not going to happen. Sure, some women have miscarriages and it is awful, but it’s not because of anything YOU have done. The best thing you can do is not stress, take deep breaths and take care of yourself mentally.

-Eat Right Most Of The Time. I say most of the time because it is always good to eat right. Pregnant or not. However, I do think that life is way too short to not indulge every once in a while. Hello, my name is Logan and I’m a chocoholic! I’m not giving it up, but I will moderate. There is a huge difference. I believe by telling yourself you can’t ever have Mexican food or sugar, you are setting yourself up for failure. Just eat those things in moderation.

-Go To Your Regular Check-ups. It is so important to go to your doctor regularly. Do not skip appointments. Go to every single one.

-Rest. Listen to your body. If you are super tired, lay down and take a nap or rest for a while. Don’t overdo it. If you are really tired, your body is telling you to rest. Kick those feet up. It’s okay to give yourself a break.

-Drink Lots of Water. If you need encouragement on this one, read about my pregnancy scare that was a direct effect of not drinking enough water. Drink up! Water is not only good for you and your energy, it’s really important for you baby.

Benefits of Eating Breakfast + Cheerios Publix Coupon and Giveaway

March 17, 2015

Print your Cheerios Publix coupon and Florida OJ Publix coupon today!

Benefits of Easting Breakfast

As a WAHM I totally get how hard it is to make time to eat breakfast every morning. It is so easy to get caught up in getting ready for the day, starting on your daily tasks and chasing a 16 month old around the house. Honestly, I am usually so worried about making sure Hampton eats his Cheerios for breakfast that I forget to eat myself. Do you know the benefits of eating breakfast? After you read these, you will not want to skip any more. I know I don’t. After all, it truly is the most important meal of the day.

Cheerios-publix-coupon

Here are some benefits of eating breakfast:

-Improved concentration and performance
-weight control
-lower BMI
-lower cholesterol
-increased energy
-kick-starts your metabolism
-improved mood

With all of these amazing benefits, why is it that most Americans are skipping breakfast? Is it our busy lifestyle?

cheerios-breakfast-ideas

I’m not sure why I skip breakfast so often. Breakfast foods are my favorite. There is nothing better than eating a big ole bowl of Cheerios with my favorite Florida Orange Juice first thing in the morning. I’m trying to do a much better job of eating breakfast every morning, especially now that I am pregnant. I know my body (and baby) needs those extra healthy calories.

Did you know that Cheerios are made from whole grain oats and have only one gram of sugar per serving? Also, Florida Orange Juice is so full of vitamins –  like Vitamin C, B, and potassium – which helps support a healthy heart.

Florida-OJ-publix-coupon

Get excited, because I am giving away $15 paypal cash to one lucky winner to buy your own Cheerios and Florida OJ! Just enter in the rafflecopter below. I will choose a winner around April 5th. Disclosure: This giveaway is not conducted my General Mills.

6 Benefits of Staying Hydrated During Pregnancy

March 10, 2015

I received compensation for this post through my relationship with the Quality Blue Community. I also received a product for this review. All opinions are my own.

balanced-diet
A couple of weeks ago, on Valentine’s day to be exact, I had horrible Braxton Hicks that lasted all day and into the night. They were so strong that I started to worry I was going into pre-term labor. Luckily, I go to church with my OBGYN and saw her the next morning. I told her what had been going on and about all of the activity I had done that day and she said, “Yep, you didn’t drink enough water, did you?” It hit me immediately that I had not taken any breaks between my crazy pregnancy nesting organization and my workout to drink enough water. In fact, I had two cups of coffee, but no water. Yikes. I definitely learned my lesson.

Since then, I have been filling up my water bottle every day to make sure that I am drinking the right amount that my body needs. This Nalgene water bottle made with Tritan™ plastic has been perfect because it has the ounces marked on the side of the bottle which makes it so easy to keep up with. I’ve been sure to take a water bottle with me every time I take Hampton for a walk or do my yoga and TIU workouts, or just when I am on the go, running my daily errands. It has made all the difference. I haven’t had any more Braxton Hicks since then and I have felt so much better. My doctor recommended I drink at least 8 cups of water a day, even more when I am active. I’ve always heard to drink half of your body weight and think that is a great rule of thumb to go by.

hydration

Here are some benefits to staying hydrated during pregnancy:
-Prevents Stretch Marks
-Prevents (and helps with) Braxton Hicks Contractions
-Constipation
-Swelling
-Energy
-Skin Appearance (acne)

exercise-during-pregnancy

Needless to say, I will not be leaving the house without my Nalgene water bottle anymore. It has been packed in my purse/diaper bag and has been so convenient to carry around. If you are pregnant, don’t make the mistake I did. It can be so harmful to the baby. Water actually helps make up the amniotic fluid that our babies rely on and when we become dehydrated, it could even send us into preterm labor. Nobody wants that.
