I used to blame my years of dance – where I literally lived in a bun or ponytail – for my hair-breakage and split-ends. Now I blame my mom-bun. Its funny how things change so much, but sort of stay the same. My hair is naturally wavy/curly/frizzy, but add in lots of southern sun and hair ties and you’ve got a full-on mess of a situation. It’s true (just see my before photo below). I have always had split ends, and after reading about the causes of them, it is no wonder!
7 Things You Didn’t Know Were Damaging Your Hair:
Water – Did you know that leaving your hair wet too long can cause split ends? Who knew? I was so surprised by this one!
Brushing your hair the wrong way.
Twirling your hair – This one is huge for me. If you watch my insta-stories, you may have noticed I touch and mess with my hair all the time. It is a nervous tick, and I find myself doing it without even realizing it sometimes.
Hair Ties/bands – Not removing them properly can break your hair. Helpful Hint: Spray Schwarzkopf Fiber Therapy Leave In Conditioner Spray onto the hair tie and at the ends of your hair to help it slide right out. It is also treating your hair at the same time!
Wearing a shoulder bag (or camera strap if you’re a photographer or blogger) can also damage your hair if worn in the same place over your hair.
Your Pillow Case – Do you sleep on a silk pillow case? I do not, but I know so many people who swear by it! It decreases frizz (I really need to try this), smoothes it out and keeps those pesky pillow creases away!
Wearing the same style every day – Hello mom-bun! It’s actually really bad to wear your hair in a tie the same way for too long or too many days in a row. It can cause your hair to break. I have experienced this for years.
Did those surprise you? Some of them certainly surprised me! I asked y’all in my stories a few months ago for Shampoo suggestions and I was recently introduced to Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Moisture Shampoo, Conditioner and Anti-Breakage Treatment. I picked up the shampoo, conditioner and treatment at CVS. It has made my hair feel so good and healthy since I started using it! Spring is just around the corner and I am determined to get my hair healthy before the summer sun hits it.
How to Get Rid of Split Ends and Breakage:
Use a good Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment, regularly.
Eat fruits and vegetables
Drink lots of water to hydrate from the inside out
Protect it from the sun
Do not let water sit on your hair too long after swimming or a shower
Get regular hair trims/cuts
Don’t wash your hair every day (I wash mine about 2 or 3 times a week)
Hair loses Keratin over time and GLISS® Hair Repair™ products contain hair-identical keratin that replaces the lost keratin and improves the strength and smoothes the hair. This patented technology repairs up to 10 layers deep. GLISS hair repair shampoo is an every day shampoo and using it regularly in your hair care routine, along with the conditioner and treatment, can help repair and strengthen it. It is a go-to for healthy hair! I also love these hair repair products because they have many essential benefits like color protection, intense hydration, enhanced volume and nourishment so you don’t have to compromise when it comes to the repair you need on a regular basis.
GLISS® Hair Repair™ products are so easy to use! Once you wash and condition your hair like you normally do, then you massage the treatment in your hair, let it sit for one minute and rinse it out really well. That’s it! Now, say goodbye to damaged hair and split ends!
