In the last 3 and a half years, we have had 3 babies and moved twice. That is a lot of change for a person, but can you imagine for a dog? And not just any dog, but our small, anxious maltipoo – bless her heart. Pippa has had a really tough time. I remember as a puppy she was very anxious. She is only four pounds, so she is really tiny and maybe some of her anxieties come from her size, but after a lot of reading about this breed I found that they seem to be very anxious dogs. Moving with kids is really hard. You have to deal with them acting out for a little while (like after any major event) and go through an adjustment period with them, but what is really hard to forget as a parent is that you also have a dog going through these same changes and adjustments.

When we moved into my parent’s house last year while our new house was being built, Pippa acted out really bad. She would potty all over their house (sorry, mom). She was such a nuisance and it really became a big problem. We tried everything. We would let her out multiple times an hour. Nothing we tried worked. Until one day, I decided I would start paying her extra attention and make her feel really special. I had a stern talk with our toddlers, who can be a little rough with her at times, and told them to be very sweet and gentle with her. It really seemed to help. With our big move into the new house, I knew we would go through this again. Sure enough, Pippa christened our new house well. I am pretty sure she has hit every room in the house. It made me sick, to be honest. Our brand new house. I’ve since gotten over it because we potty trained Hampton and Weston has had his moments, too. I’ve accepted that it is our life right now. • We took her to our new house throughout the building process so that she could familiarize herself with the area.
