How We Transitioned Our Babies to Solid Foods

September 12, 2016

There are so many changes and transitions that happen in baby’s first year. It can all be a little overwhelming, especially if you are a first-time parent. These transitions have gotten easier for me with our second child and I’m sure it will again with our third. I’m not sure if it’s easier, or I just know what to expect now, but either way, it has been an easier transition year with our Sophie. Gerber made it very easy for us to make the transition to solid foods with our babies.

How to Transition Baby to Solid Foods

Gerber baby foods get thicker with each stage which helps your baby get used to new tastes and textures, gradually. I loved giving my kids Gerber baby foods because they are sold in so many stores and are easily available and so easy to pop open and feed your child when you are in a hurry.

How to Transition Baby to Solid Foods

Once our babies got more used to eating solids, I began adding more mashed fruit to their baby food puree. This morning for example, I fed Sophie Gerber 3rd Foods with Lil’ Bits Apple and Blueberry (one of her favorites) and added smashed blueberries to thicken it up! She loves them and I feel confident knowing she is eating healthy and getting extra antioxidants. Now we just need to continue working on her use of the spoon – Yikes! It’s a work in progress.

Gerber 3rd Foods and Lil' Bits

Some of our other favorite Gerber 3rd Foods with Lil’ Bits are Apple Banana, Banana Apple Strawberry, and Sweet Potato Apple Carrot and Cinnamon! My babies are big fruit eaters, but have struggled when it comes to eating their veggies. I love mixing in a few pureed vegetables or blending the vegetable and fruit foods to sneak some in their diets. Another great option is to blend some yogurt in with the fruits and make a simple yogurt parfait!

Lots of great tips. We just went with baby lead feeding for both of our kids. They were both just so interested in food right away.
