Tips to Transition Your Toddler From A Bottle

June 8, 2016

My son was so easy to transition from formula and a bottle. One day I put milk in his bottle and he acted like he didn’t even notice. The next week I put it in a sippy cup and again, he acted like he didn’t notice. I was shocked because so many people had warned me of the ordeal that was transitioning from bottle to sippy cup and from formula or breast milk to milk. Going through it again now with Sophie is completely different. She yells and crys until she gets her bottle every night. She will not go to sleep unless she gets it and she refuses to drink it if it’s regular milk. She has been a lot tougher to break of these habits. She does great with a sippy, but when it comes for bedtime, she wants that bottle.

Tips to Transition Your Toddler From a Bottle To A Sippy Cup

While we have officially begun the transition from bottle to sippy and from formula to milk – again, here are a few tricks that have worked for me with one or both of my babies:

Introduce them to a sippy cup very early on. Even if they can’t really use it yet, getting them familiar with it/ teeth on it, etc. will help them become used to it early on.

Let them drink milk as early as they can. My doctor told me that Sophie could start drinking it at 11 months, so we introduced her to it then. However, she had been known to sneak some of her brother’s milk from time to time before then.

Try putting milk into their bottle (instead of formula) to see if they even notice. If you’re lucky, they won’t complain.

Try substituting a toddler drink in their sippy cup.

If you are like me and you tend to worry about whether they are getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrition after the big transition, there are some fabulous solutions out there to help give you peace of mind. Gerber’s new Toddler drink – Stage 3 Gerber® Good Start® Grow has been a great solution for us and has really helped Sophie with this big transition. She is a big fan and looks forward to her sippy cups, now! Plus, I have peace of mind knowing she is still getting lots of vitamins and nutrients from this toddler drink. With all the probiotics and non-GMO ingredients, this drink has made this momma a fan!

That’s great! I think for Sophie, having an older sibling helped because she likes to steal his sippy cups! haha
