I have talked about Hampton’s baby eczema here before. He really struggled for his first year of life. Those dry red cheeks – I remember it like it was yesterday. Bless his heart, it was a struggle for a while. When he had a bad flare up, it was always on his sweet little cheeks and he wouldn’t leave them alone. I tried all types of creams, lotions and natural remedies, but nothing seemed to help. The doctor told us it would just have to clear up on it’s own in time.
My aunt who is a retired nurse suggested I switch my current baby soap and lotion out for AVEENO® Baby Eczema Therapy products. She informed me that the alcohol in the other soap was probably drying out his skin and making the eczema worse. I was not even aware that there was alcohol in the baby soap I was using, but sure enough, when I looked it was listed as an ingredient.
After maybe a week or two of using AVEENO® Baby, I could already tell a huge difference in his skin. Now he goes a really long time (sometimes months) without having a flare up. I have been using Aveeno Baby since then and use it with all three of my children. Sophie has flare ups on her little cheeks sometimes and as soon as I see it, I take action. I use the AVEENO® Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream for their problem areas (cheeks and back of arms) and I just recently started using the AVEENO® Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm! I put the night balm on their cheeks before bed and it is so much better by the next morning when they wake up.
The ACTIVE NATURALS Colloidal Oatmeal in the AVEENO® Baby moisturizing cream helps to relieve my babies’ itchy, irritated skin. The formula creates a barrier on their skin that helps keep the irritated area moisturized. It is pediatrician recommended, steroid-free and fragrance-free! It is very affordable (ranging from $11 to $15) and available at a wide variety of retailers. The AVEENO® Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm is the newest to the eczema therapy line. This formula contains three-times more glycerin, locking in moisture – making it the perfect formula to put on the babies right before bedtime. It is also pediatrician and dermatologist recommended and is allergy tested, non-greasy, paraben, fragrance and steroid-free! Basically, it’s good stuff. This is also very affordable (ranging from $5 for 1oz. and $20 for 11ozs.) and is available at several retailers that carry baby products.
It is the worst feeling in the world when you can’t help your baby. Thanks to the wisdom of my aunt and AVEENO® Baby products, we have come a long way with Hamp’s eczema in just three short years. I am so thankful that he is thriving and healthy because of such a simple switch.

I will have to check into this. If it is gluten free, it is worth a try. Thanks for the information!

I will need to find these products. We have been dealing with eczema since my little Caleb was a baby. We currently have to use prescription strength creams on his skin and I don’t really like that we have to use those kinds.
