Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

Pages: 460

Synopsis from Goodreads: Sometimes it’s the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal. . . .

A murder… . . . a tragic accident… . . . or just parents behaving badly?

What’s indisputable is that someone is dead. But who did what?

Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads:   Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest (how is this possible?). And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?).

Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay.   New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

My Thoughts: I loved every page of this book. Liane Moriarty is one of my favorite authors because she never disappoints. You never see it coming. The whole time you are thinking, this is so easy, I know who gets murdered and I know who did it, but you don’t. Not even close. This novel kept me on my toes and (much to Ryan and Hampton’s dismay) I literally couldn’t put it down. It was exciting and fast paced. I loved that it kept going back and forth between the past and present so that you felt like you were trying to put the puzzle pieces together along with the detective. The characters are really likable, but I really loved Celeste. She was so spunky and definitely a go-getter type of woman that you would definitely want on your side. I gave this book 5 stars and highly recommend it!

Over the weekend, we spent lots of time with friends that we haven’t seen in a while. We have all been good friends since my Freshman year of college and try to get together as often as possible. One of our friend’s daughter was turning 6 and had a big Frozen party. Elsa and Anna were there and we sang Frozen songs and ate Frozen snacks. Of course, Hampton spent most of the time outside throwing his ball around. We really enjoyed our time with them.

Can you tell Hamp was a little excited?

To all of my mama friends out there…

It’s okay that you haven’t put on make-up for two days, or brushed your hair…did you have time to brush your teeth today? It’s okay.
It’s okay that you have a pile of laundry to do, but you just got the baby down and all you want to do is sleep. Just sleep. You will get that laundry done eventually. Those dishes can wait. It’s okay.
It’s okay that you feel guilty sometimes for having a second child while your first is still only a baby himself. (Okay, that one was for me) It’s okay.

It’s okay that you are still in your pajamas at 1pm.

It’s okay that your dog peed on your floor because you forgot to let her out.

It’s okay that you have peanut butter in your hair from lunch…yesterday,  and you just remembered you should probably wash that out at some point.

It’s okay to read that book to your son who is really wanting you to sit down with him instead of catching up on your work.

It is so easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted when you are a mother. Especially a new mother, or as I’ve learned recently – a pregnant mother. It’s okay to give yourself some “me” time and to rest when you really need to. God says in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.Even God rested on the 7th day. Everyone needs to rest at some point. It’s okay to ask for help and to cuddle on the couch with your husband after a long day instead of getting those chores done. It’s okay to fall a little behind to spend more quality time with your kids. You will catch up and everything will be okay.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed with all of your daily tasks?

Well, it’s official! We are only 15 weeks away from having this baby! Time PLEASE slow down?! We can’t wait to meet our baby girl, but there is just one problem. We have no name for her. We thought we were really close to deciding. We had it narrowed down to 2 names, and then we saw a new one we loved a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with it. That was IT! Except then, Monday night, we heard another new name while watching golf (I know, I know) and now we aren’t s sure. Why are we not having twin girls? If I had two girls to name, it would be a done deal by now. Obviously I’m exaggerating slightly, but I mean, really. This is getting so tough. So now, we have 4 names we are trying to decide between. Lawd help us these next few weeks.

How far along: 25 weeks tomorrow!

Size of baby:1 and 1/2 pounds and 13 inches long!

Gender: Our sweet baby Girl

Movement: She is moving all the time!

Workouts: I’m still in full swing of the LYB series! I am still a few miles behind but trying to catch up a little each week. My favorite workout this week was the legs and booty routine. I haven’t done it in so long and it felt so good.

Sleep: I haven’t slept great this week. I’m not sure if it’s been more because of the baby or because of this cold that has plagued me.

Cravings: I have definitely craved sweets this week. I’m not sure if it will stick or if it was just a fling. I’m trying really hard to indulge in extreme moderation.

Looking Forward To: The weekend. We are going to see friends and celebrate birthdays and I can’t wait for a fun full weekend with them!

Don’t you love discovering new things that are kind of incredible? I have been loving me some lipstick lately, but let’s be honest, it always rubs off in like an hour. If we’re lucky. Well, I’m about to change your life.

Cover Girl Lip Stain
stays on for 24 hours. No joke. I put it on in the morning, went to lunch with my grandma, chased Hampton around all day, worked, read, went to bed, woke up the next morning and it was still there. I’m not joking. I was shocked. My sister (who told me about this amazing product) was not lying when she told me this would happen. So, I of course had to share it with you. I ran back to Wal Mart and bought another shade because it is so awesome and I haven’t stopped wearing it yet.

Here are a few other things I’m loving this month:

This Book  by Liane Moriarty. Her books just get better and better (Review coming soon).

This Dress has been my go-to the last 2 weeks now. It is so comfortable and cute. You can style it so many different ways which I love. You will probably be seeing it again.

Downton Abbey is back on! Have you been watching it this season? I am so into it! It’s the best show on Television right now. Hands down.

FRESH Sugar Rose Lip Treatment is almost (not quite) as good as Romance, but it is a great light shade that is perfect for every day wear. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately. It also smells reallllly good. Bonus points!

This workout from Tone it up! It works all the right places.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

December, 2012 Pamela Dorman Books

Pages: 369

Synopsis from GoodreadsLou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.

What Lou doesn’t know is she’s about to lose her job or that knowing what’s coming is what keeps her sane.

Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he’s going to put a stop to that.

What Will doesn’t know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they’re going to change the other for all time.

My Thoughts: I had heard really great things about this book, so I had to read it over the holidays. I flew through it and it was great, however, it did not have the ending I wanted it to. I know. How dare Jojo. Without giving it away, it was just way too sad for me. Especially considering I was reading it during Christmas. Not cool. I loved the novel, however and the main character – Lou. I gave it 4 stars, because of the ending.

Sweater: Target Pants: Old Navy Moccasins: Little Pistols here

Hampton has been sick for the last week, so he was beyond ready to get outside as soon as he started feeling better. He braved the cold and all. He’s such an outdoorsman. haha

boy_moccasins

I was very excited to receive his new moccs from an Etsy shop that I came across a couple of weeks ago – Little Pistols. Not only to I love this shop and everything they have to offer, but I love Trista’s story behind these special handmade moccs. She was a teacher before she had her first child and quit teaching to be a SAHM. She is also a rancher’s wife, so the ranch life keeps her busy as well and her growing business. It has really grown and she is excited to reveal new styles and colors this year!

I love her selection, but I can’t tell you how wonderful the quality is. They are genuine leather and are so much more affordable than any other leather moccasins I have seen. I can’t wait to purchase a pair for my daughter! They are so affordable that you could also give them as gifts to friends and family without breaking your budget.

Hampton was a big fan of his new moccasins! He loves running around in them, chasing Pippa and climbing his new slide. Happy baby = happy mama! 🙂

Be sure to check out Little Pistols on Etsy and Instagram!

Moccasins: here // Bow: here

Baby girl is already getting spoiled. Not only did she get a few gifts for Christmas, but she got her first pair of moccasins this week! They are so tiny and adorable! She even got a matching bow. I mean, how could she  not? I came across Mini Moccs and Bows on Instagram (of course) and fell in love with their baby moccs. I am very pleased with the quality and I can’t wait to dress her up in them. They’ve got a few new styles available and even have a pair of leopard moccs! I am in love. Why didn’t anyone warn me that having a girl would break me? 😉

Mini Moccs and Bows is so affordable. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future. Their baby bows and moccs would make a lovely baby gift as well.

How far along: 24 weeks tomorrow!

Size of baby:1 and 1/3 pound and 12 inches long!

Gender: Our sweet baby Girl

Weight Gain: I officially hit the dreaded 10 lb. mark this week. I feel good and have been exercising a good bit and eating healthy, but I have a feeling those pounds are coming. I am 10 lbs. down from where I was with Hamp at this point which I am very thankful for.

Movement: She is moving all the time! She even wakes me up during the night. Ryan has felt her many times this week and he loves it!

Workouts: Love Your Body series has officially begun and I am doing really well so far. I am a little behind on my miles, but I am trying to catch up.

Sleep: I’m still sleeping okay.

Maternity Clothes: I’m still trying to mostly make due with what I’ve got. I am loving this maxi dress, though! It is so comfortable! You can read my review here.

Cravings: Still no cravings.

Favorite Moment This Week: We bought Hampton’s new bed! Huge step for his new room. The only problem is that it won’t be here for at least 6 more weeks. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted now that we have officially started planning his new room. Also, I went to the doctor yesterday and everything looked great. Baby girl’s heartbeat was 132 and she was moving all around. It makes me so happy and thankful to hear her little heart beating and knowing that she is healthy.

Looking Forward To: The weekend. We have had a busy week, and I am definitely ready to relax a little bit…and catch up on my miles. 🙂

New Years Eve was spent with family, warm fires and  heated game of Cranium. We were able to spend time with some of Ryan’s family that we do not get to see very often, which was a huge blessing. We got Hampton to bed and were very tempted to go to sleep as well, but we did actually stay up to watch the ball drop in New York and again in Mobile.

New Years Day was spent mostly outside, because even with colds, just try to get these two to stay inside. It’s impossible. Hampton would live outside if I let him. They drove their Gator all around my grandparents house out in the country, and we enjoyed some delicious traditional NY day food!

Hampton received a slide for Christmas from Ryan’s parents and we finally put it together. Hampton lit up like a Christmas tree! He was so excited to play – and boy did he. In fact, he wasn’t too happy about going back inside. The little guy just doesn’t understand that we can’t play in the dark. It was so cold and I was very thankful that we had this adorable pom beanie to put on his little head to keep him warm. I have been hunting for a pom beanie for him this year and was thrilled to find this one. It is SO cute, I mean, come on.

Cozy Nooks creates the most beautiful crochet goodies from baby hats to boot socks. They even have adorable wooden signs that can be personalized to your liking. They were so sweet to send Hamp this cute little turtle stuffed animal. He loved it! I can’t say enough good things about this shop. I love to shop small businesses so I was really happy to come across them. I’ve even got my eye on a couple of hats for our baby girl’s newborn portraits. I’ll be keeping an eye on them via Instagram and Facebook.
I loved using my favorite Christmas present (a.k.a. my new DSLR) to capture these precious moments of my baby boy. I think it’s safe to say he enjoyed his playtime as well. 🙂
