A Tacky PJ Christmas Party

December 27, 2012

Every year, my parents host a Christmas party for our entire family. There are quite a few of us so it is always really crazy, loud and so much fun. We normally vote on a theme each year (tacky, pj, etc.) but this year, the girls wanted to do tacky while the boys wanted PJ’s, so my genius cousin came up with the idea to do Tacky PJ! Ergo:

We ate tacos, played games, opened gifts and laughed…a lot.

Reindeer relay game.

I love my sister and cousins!

Our little family! 🙂

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all!

December 24, 2012

Today, Ryan and I are laying around in our PJ’s, watching Christmas movies all day. Tonight we are planning to go look at Christmas lights, and then open our gifts to each other (Eekk).

Tomorrow we have a busy day making our rounds. We will go to my parent’s house tomorrow morning and have brunch with them then we will go to Ryan’s parent’s house to celebrate with them tomorrow afternoon/night.
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! What are your plans?

Ornament Swap 2012

December 22, 2012

A few weeks ago, I signed up to participate in my first ever ornament swap. Little did I know, I would make such a precious friend. Over the past few weeks I have gotten to know Barb who blogs over at One Love  One Life One Family. She is such a precious person and that came out through her gift. Barb truly went above and beyond. Not only did she buy me a Starbucks ornament (which was all too perfect for me) but she also MADE an ornament, bought me a Starbucks gift card, and Christmas tissues. How thoughtful is she? Please stop by her blog and say hi!

Thanks again, Barb!

Holiday Traditions (Part Two)

December 21, 2012

The ladies on my sidebar are seriously some of the sweetest people. I have really enjoyed getting to know them this month. They are so supportive, kind, and generous.I hope you will all take the time to get to know them as well. Meet my Coffee Beans!

I asked them what their favorite holiday tradition is and this is what they shared:

Chelsea @ Yours Truly

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram
Favorite Tradition: Eating. and eating some more. No, I’m kidding (not really)..one of my fave traditions is every Christmas eve, our whole family drives to town to order takeout chinese food, then during the 30 min wait for our food we drive around the city and look at everyone’s Christmas lights. Then we go home and eat..my other fave!

Abbey @ The Making’s of a Mess

Blog  | Twitter | Instagram | Pinterest

Favorite Tradition: Ever since I was little, me and the siblings always had to sit on the stairs before we went to open up our stockings at the dining room table. Mom had to make sure everything was ready before we came down! We also take a picture of us on the steps each year as well. [Oh, and I love our Christmas morning breakfast…delicious!]

Nikki @ The Crafty Side of Sarcasm

Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas tree. I do it every year with my mom while my dad is off doing something with my brother while we get “girl” time. My mom is my best friend {besides my brother} & it’s something we’ve done since i was little. She wont let anyone else help if they offer because she said that’s “our thing”. I love pulling out the old ornaments we’ve had for years, her favorite part is hanging the ornaments my brother & I made when we were little {no matter how cheesy we think they are}.

Holiday Traditions (Part One)

December 19, 2012

The ladies on my sidebar are seriously some of the sweetest people. I have really enjoyed getting to know them this month. They are so supportive, kind, and generous.I hope you will all take the time to get to know them as well. Meet my Extra Shots of Espresso!

I asked them what their favorite holiday tradition is and this is what they shared:

Taylor @ Goings on in Texas

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram

Favorite Tradition: When I was a kid, I looked forward to Christmas Eve so much. My family would eat dinner either out some where or someone would cook, we would attend our Christmas Eve service at church and then go look at Christmas lights afterward. When we got home, it was time to open one present (my brother and I) and it was always Christmas PJ’s. And then if my mom’s parents were with us for the Christmas holiday, my brother and I would perform some sort of Christmas play with our grandfather (we had practiced and practiced…haha). I remember one year we did a version of Scrooge and my grandfather played Scrooge and removed his false teeth and everything (I remember that being sort of scary and fascinating all at the same time! haha) These are memories I’ll cherish forever!

Nikki @ From a Miss to a Mrs.

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram

Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition has to be Christmas Eve at my mom’s house. We always order pizza and chow down in front of the T.V. while we watch The Grinch, then open 90% of our presents. It’s one of my favorite things to do all year long.

Natalie @ At Home with the Hinkley’s

Blog | Twitter | Facebook

Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is decorating at my Mom’s house.  We blast the Johnny Mathis Christmas album on repeat and go to town!  It is so fun to pull out all the old ornaments and decorations that she has had since my brother and I were tiny.

Dani @ Football and Rainbows

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Pinterest | Instagram

Favorite Tradition: For Christmas Slugger, our elf on the shelf, comes out and does all kinds of fun things.  I also take my son, Ashton, out every year to go look at Christmas lights and drink hot chocolate while we are looking.

Tarole @ Island Livin’ with One Haole Girl

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Pinterest| Instagram | Bloglovin’ | Tumblr
Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is during Thanksgiving weekend, my entire family gets together for Thanksgiving on Thursday. The women go shop for Black Friday while the men go on a big hunt trip until Sunday. It’s the same every year and it never gets old!

Kelsey @ Stories of Kel

Blog | Bloglovin’ | Twitter | Instagram

Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday memory is getting together with tons of family and playing music together. We all take turns singing, playing instruments, and dancing. It is so much fun!

Sarah @ Beyond the Gradebook

Blog | Twitter | Facebook

Favorite Tradition: I have so many favorite holiday traditions.  Christmas Eve services with my family and opening one present on Christmas Eve (always pajamas, a robe, or something of the sort) are my top favorites, though.

Sabz @ The Eclectic Grab Bag

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | YouTube

Favorite Tradition:  During the Holidays, my family and I jump in the car and visit Crippsmas Place to see all of the decorated houses and lights they put up ever year in a neighborhood not too far from us.  It’s a bunch of different streets and you can either drive to see it all, but a lot of people walk around with their families to enjoy it a little longer.  On one of the courts, there is a donation center where they collect money to divide between different charities and save a little to update some of the decorations and lights as well.  We love it so much and never miss one year!

Ashley @ Simply Ashley

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram

Favorite Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is making Christmas cookies! I cannot wait to make them for the first time with my daughter Addie this year! :)) I am hoping she enjoys it as much as I did growing up.

{GUEST POST} Natalie from At Home With The Hinkleys

December 11, 2012

Today, Natalie from At Home with the Hinkleys is posting about one of her favorite holiday traditions. I hope you enjoy and show her some bloggy love!

Welcome, Natalie!

****************
Hello all, I am Natalie from At Home with the Hinkleys, and I am so excited to be guest posting today!

A little about myself and my little blog:
The Hinkleys
As I said before, I am Natalie, and to my right there is Aaron, my husband of almost 1 year in January.  I am a 30 year old accountant, Aaron is a 31 year old student getting his PhD in Philosophy if he will ever get his dissertation finished…  We live in Houston, TX.  We are total goofballs.  I write about our life, and general talking points from subjects I find interesting or humorous.  We (I) hope you get a chance to pop by and say hi!
Aaron and I are celebrating our first married Christmas this year, and it is extra exciting because we are both Christmas fanatics.  As we were decorating and discussing the types of Christmas traditions we wanted to have for our family, we decided we wanted to start a Nutcracker collection.  I love them and find it very cool and interesting how many different varieties there are!
Who doesn’t want a hippie nutcracker??
If I had to pick a nutcracker for both Aaron and myself I think my pic for Aaron would be:
The guy is a Simpsons fanatic, so this would be perfect!
This would also be perfect
For the bow tie wearing philosopher in your life.
The only one I could find that was even close to an accountant was Scrooge.  🙁 (lol)
We aren’t that bad!
So aside from the obvious prejudices towards accountants that the nutcracker makers have, I am really looking forward to starting and growing our collection!
Is there anything special you collect, Christmas themed or otherwise??
****************
I’m LOVING Natalie’s collection of nutcrackers! I have collected a few over the years, but this makes me want to grow my collection even more. There are so many types out there now! Go check out Natalie’s blog! You won’t regret it.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

November 27, 2012

This is truly the most wonderful time of the year. I love everything about the Holiday season- the snow (in some places), sweaters, scarves, boots, lights, trees, decor, giving gifts, finding ways to serve and seeing other people serving, but most of all I love that we get to celebrate JESUS CHRIST. He is, after all, the reason for the season! 🙂 So it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Cantrell house, and (ba da ba ba ba) I’m lovin’ it!

Our “fun” tree

The wreath I made last year.

Today, I’m guest posting over at Island Livin’ with One Haole Girl! Go check it out and give Tarole some blog love!
